VFW Pleads To Spare Military And Veteran Benefits

The Veterans of Foreign Wars is urging its two million members to plead with Congress to spare military and veterans' benefits. The call to action by the VFW opposes any changes to Tricare or other retirement and health care plans. The VFW's move was prompted by a recommendation for an annual enrollment fee for TRICARE for Life. The health care program or senior retired military personnel currently has no fee for participation. Lawmakers are already responding to the move. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said that current beneficiaries will be protected.

tHIS IS TYPICAL OF YOUR GOVERNMENT AT WORK. When I retired in August of 1987,after 20 years service, I was covered by CHAMPUS. Then came TRICARE. The concept wasn't all that bad, except in order to get the same benefits as under CHAMPUS you had to sign up for TRICARE Prime at a cost of $247 per year for an individual. Then as I reached the age of 65 I received a letter stating that I will be moved to TRICARE for Life, but in order to receive these benefits I had to sign up for Medicare Part B, at $115 per month. What ever happened to taking care of the veterans?
