MENDHAM, N.J. (AP) - Hundreds of Verizon workers held a candlelight vigil Thursday outside their CEO's New Jersey home to protest benefit cuts.
They carried American flags and chanted "What's disgusting? Union busting" outside Lowell McAdam's Mendham residence. Police say the protest was peaceful and without incident.
About 45,000 Verizon workers from Massachusetts to Virginia walked off the job Aug. 7.

Good for them! He makes tens of millions, his company makes BILLIONS, and he wants to CUT medical benefits and destroy the pensions of workers who make those profits for the company?
Why is everyone on here so quick to defend the corporations that are the ones NOT paying taxes? You rail that the poor don't pay enough, what about multi-billion dollar corporations like Verizon? Why shouldn't they pay the same tax rate you pay? What's so wrong with that?
I don't recall anyone saying the poor don't pay enough. I have heard people and gov say the rich does not pay enough.
You worried about them paying taxes yet you don't want to pay for YOUR benefits. Incredible.
And after the 31st, if your still out there, you won't have any benefits. You got what you wanted, you still won't pay for them.
From what I have read, Verizon does not want to CUT medical benefits, they merely want you to CHIP IN for the cost.
Regardless if they make 10 billion or 10 million, that doesn't sound so drastic to me.
And now you guys are going around cutting cables and other acts of vandalism. What if someone had an emergency and couldn't call for help? 911 still uses landlines as far as I know.
You will NEVER get support for actions such as these.
Pack it in and go back to work while you still have a job. Or not.
Time and support is on Verizon's side. You are fighting a losing battle. Not to be insensitive to your plight, but that's just the way it is and I doubt it will change.
The sad truth is most of these people will lose their jobs. We as a people need to pull together in this dark time in our country and it's going to get worse for all.
I hope they all get fired , I'll work for them for a lot less.

From what I understand the land line part of verizon is NOT the part that is making money. The wireless part is making the money. The ones working for wireless are NOT the ones striking. If you have ever had to deal with customer service for your land line or DSL you would understand. Their customer service and knowledge of the people that work with land lines and DSL SUCK! Not one of them knows what they are doing.
I really want to drive by them & cool them off on these hot days with a quick spray of my headlight washer fluid. that thing squirts like 20 feet!

There are a few of the wireless workers in the strike. Not many, but some. The majority is the landline side.
10:56 -I agree,but unfortunately there is no one to project a voice of reason to these people.If someone with diplomatic skills and good intentions would intervene,I think the strikers would listen.As it is there are 2 sides:one demanding that they continue to strike,and the other threatening them with what will happen if they don't stop striking.
