A significant number of pet owners (41 percent) are extremely or somewhat worried they could not afford the medical bills for a sick cat or dog, according to a survey. Is pet insurance the answer?

I have seen people spend THOUSANDS of dollars on their dog to make it live an additional year. I do not have money to spend like that. I love my pets just as much as everyone else but I do not purchase pet insurance and if anything catastrophic happens to any of my animals then they will have to be put down because I do not have the money to shell out thousands. To be honest, it boggles my mind how some spend so much money on their animals. Like I said I love my animals, but they are not my children. They are animals.

of course pet insurance is worth it. I have spent $419.62 so far on my dog this year and my pet insurance reimbursed me $285.87. 10:53-you shouldnt have animals if you can't afford to take care of them medically. shame on you!!!
animals are gods creatures and deserve to be treated kindly.

12:27 who are you to tell me that I don't treat my animals kindly? You have no idea how I treat my animals so don't you dare try to say I am a bad owner just because I don't fit YOUR criteria! I also have spent close to $500 on my animals this year between updated shots and exams for general health. I said THOUSANDS! As in more than $419.62. Pet insurance, in my opinion, is not worth it and you nor your snide comments based on how YOU think I treat my animals is going to change that. I guarantee you that you do not love your animals any more than I do. I also guarantee you that all of my animals are just as happy to have me as an owner as your pets are to have you. With or without pet insurance. As as far as your comment pertaining to me being able to afford them that is none of your business in the first place but just so you know I was able to buy them, pay for their routine vet visits (pay close attention to that one), AND food. My pets don't want for anything. Thanks.

I agree totally with 10:53 and i think most people will fall in that category. We all love our pets and most give them the necessary care (routine vet visits) but when they get to the end of their lives to spend thousands to prolong their life by a year is just silly...it's an animal, not a child.

We love our pets however, the $800 vet bill we just had for one animal is a tad bit ridiculous, just saying
