Wicomico Council Budget Session Today

The Wicomico County Council is scheduled to have a budget work session today from 9AM – 3PM in the council chambers of the GOB.  Most of session will be be spent on the usual thorough, watch paint dry, topics of county government.  Two items should prove particularly “interesting”:

  • County Executive Rick Pollitt is to appear at around 10 AM.  He is scheduled to make a pitch for his department’s budget and present a plan to restructure his office.  Harford County Executive David Craig is scheduled to present Pollitt’s pitch for re-structuring.
  • At approximately 12 Noon, the Wicomico County Board of Education (WCBOE) is scheduled to appear before council.  We expect this to be quite “interesting” in light of information learned this weekend.  Look for a special post at 8 AM this morning to provide details.

Why can't Pollitt speak for himself? Why do we even call him an executive? He has to have so many people hold his hand and help him do his job every day. Now we have TWO who even have to SPEAK for him!!! This man is useless!!!! Is he lazy or stupid? Pollitt, get rid of your PIO and speak and write for yourself. Make your own proposals! We put (not me) you in office to be an Executive, start acting like it!!

The WCBOE needs to look within their own hallowed halls in the main office and make cuts there. Pay cuts, job eliminations, contract workers and wasted trips, etc. Leave classrooms alone. Support the administrators with disciplinary issues so good kids who want to learn can have a safe and NON-disruptive place to learn. Put bandaids on buildings because we don't have the funds to build new.

The Board of Education doesn't answer questions from the parents, the public or the County Council. They fail to respond to most emails or give some banal statement that they have received your question and need to research the answer. You wait for three weeks, then send the question again. It's ignored again. The attitude that they don't have to explain their actions comes from the top.

City was supposed to be finalizing its budget too. Did you find out how that went?
