Salisbury Police Officer Wrecks Into Vehicle On West Main Street

A Salisbury Police Officer pulled out onto West Main Street and smacked into an oncoming car. I don't believe there are any injured people but you may want to stay clear of West Main Street for a little while as this just happened.

Was the officer distracted by cell phone use?

Or eating a Donut?

Or worse yet a DWI?

Your an idiot and probably have been arrested before and have hate for the police. But I am sure the time you need them you will be calling...

I don't hate cops! Never been arrested. A few questions? On cellphone? Eating donuts? On duty? Off duty? Speeding? Come to a complete stop? Will he be charged? Was the car searched for illegal drugs? Will his take home vehicle be taken away? Was he drug tested? Thank you! Please police officers, let us ask questions without you calling us names! Why would you get treated any differently than a regular citizen?

3:03 PM... nice sense of humor pal.

Signed, a law enforcement officer.

3:56 i second 3:03, you are an idiot. first, if the officer was working, do you honestly believe that he would be drunk?, secondly, illegal drugs, really? third, 98% of the officers at SPD DO NOT have take home cars. For you to automatically assume that the officer was drunk, and on drugs is absoultely ridiculous! Officers spend the majority of their day driving, most are bound to have an accident sooner or later in their career and if he (or she) was at fault, the penalty they face is much more costly than a traffic ticket. Oh, and last I checked "regular citizens" don't get drug tested and loose their car for every accident. You may also want to check the law, law enforcement on duty is EXEMPT from the cell phone ban. Remember your words the next time you need the police and do them and yourself a favor and just don't bother.

2:37, wouldn't that be you're an idiot?

I am not a member of this or any other dept. Isn't the donuts a little silly? Also SPD does not get take hime vehicle. Might want to know what you're asking first.

Everyone who commented before this post is an idiot. For gods sake Joe was just giving a warning about a traffic accident on west main street and the name calling begins. Oh wait I guess now I'm an idiot now too... Duh!!

4:04, so the police can interrogate anybody they like, anytime. but a citizen can not ask the same basic questions of the police? Yeah we all know what they shouldn't be doing, but unfortunately there have been plenty of instances of some doing it anyway. More reason for a citizen review board! I always like it when you guys say don't call us when you need us. Funny how that works out, always seems there is never one of you around when you're needed!
I'll rely on my USMC training and my guard dog and my .40 SW before I ever hope you show up in a timely fashion!

He was probable responding to the incident at the school. I am glad no one was hurt, thank you officer for doing your job and putting your life on the line everyday even for idiots like the one who left that stupid comment! I would like to know what he does for a living?

Yeah, I get sick of that "don't call us next time....blah blah blah...", too. Actually, from what I understand, citizens are REQUIRED to call the police to investigate crime and settle criminal matters. I catch someone in my shed trying to steal my lawn equipment, I'm not allowed to blast them and settle the crime issue. At least, in theory, I'm not. And PLEASE don't act like cops are perfect and above reproach. They murder, rob, extort, and beat innocent citizens senseless. There are thousands of cases across the nation that prove it, in addition to a WHOLE LOT OF VIDEO. So, who's to say he WASN"T driving under the influence? Didn't stop at the stop sign? Was distracted by a cell phone message from his bookie? How many tickets was he issued? Or are police EXEMPT from them, too? It's a wonder to many of us serfs that the cop didn't jump out and yank the other driver out of his car and beat his ass for some made-up traffic violation, may sprinkle a little crack on him....lol...that last part was a take on Chris Rocks riff on the cops....as far as me calling the cops, I'll call 'em after I've emptied the clip...I'm busy up to that point.

Almost every company runs a drug test when an operator who is in an accident. Why shouldn't SPD or any other LE agency do the same thing? Alcoholism is quite prevalent in LE. The take home was meant for LE in general, not just SPD. Any distracted driver should be charged and was asking if there was cause to charge the police officer. I'm sure he was "nervous" which is the reason the WCSD runs all of the illegal searches on everyone else, so I wondered if this was done here too. Don't worry, like 5:42 I will rely on my military experience to defend my home and person, also got two dogs. Besides, you won't get anywhere on time. The criminals will be long gone before you finish your coffee and donut. Tired of you guys using your badges to justify anything you want to do or don't want to do. And, attacking the people who pay your paycheck!!

Just teasing at 3:03 remark. For God sakes chill out! said...

Whew,

Now you know how the citizens feel when you start asking all these bull crap questions when involved in a traffic stop.
Would appear your feelings lay on your collar to be so offended at stupid humor and jokes implied.

Let's face the facts. Respect for SA's was so bad that all three were voted out this year. Lack of respect and trust for police has never been lower in our country and in our county and the police give citizens reasons all the time to MISTRUST them. And, every time the LE says something ignorant on a blog or at a traffic stop, etc. people like them just that much less. So guys/gals in LE, if you want respect, give some respect. You have to earn it because your badge will no longer automatically get it.

I half agree with 2:37
My son was almost hit by an officer that was on his cell phone and crossed over the line to his side a few times. They are people just like the rest of us and if we can't talk on the phone and drive what makes anyone think they are better and can do it.

I know a lot of military personnel and i think the ones commenting on this post must be the 2%ers that the rest dont give a s... for. You are idiots because you take a minor traffic accident and turn it into a murder case and automatically assume that the police officer is corrupt, drunk, on drugs, planting evidence..... Grow up and lay off the weed, you don't have many brain cells left.

Anonymous said...

9:55 glad you know alot of military personnel. Until you've actually been in the crap you wouldn't know who the 2% are. And it's actually 10%. Like I said earlier and like most on this post have said. The police want respect they need to show some. As far as I'm concerned they are just a revenue generating scheme for all the judges and attorny's and the parole /probation officers. Got to keep feeding the beast. That's why everyone gets a ticket for something. Now did the police officer get a ticket? or is he above the law?

Hey 8:27
LE are allowed to use their cells while on duty, along with pretty much all first responders. Not a case of "being better then you" as you put it.

6:32
I'm thinking by your post you probably get a lot of tickets... How's the, showing Officers no respect, working out for you?

Like I said before, every time LE responds defensively or ignorant, they lose more respect each time. Most employees are held to higher standards in cases like this than our LEO's and that's a shame. How does it feel Mr/Ms LEO to have the shoe on the other foot? Every time you ASSume these things about the citizen who pays your paycheck, we lose more respect for you. SO, why shouldn't these same things happen to YOU? You are law enforcement and should at least follow the same laws and treatment you give the citizens. Learn how to take feedback from your bosses (US) and respond APPROPRIATELY! Not defensively or ignorant.

The truth is that there is a 10% rule. 10% of teachers should not be teachers. 10% of Doctors should not be Doctors. 10% of Police should not be Police. 10% of society are criminals. and 10% of the people who comment on this blog are IDIOTS.

The most dangerous drivers on the road today are LEOs. They speed everywhere. They still talk on phones while they give tickets to everyone else. They run through stop signs and stop lights like they aren't even there. They change lanes at high rates of speed and rarely use the blinker lights. They tailgate until you get out of their way: aggressive drivers. And, what do they do? Hide behind a badge, fail to follow the laws they are supposed to "enforce" and then pull out their ticket books when they see others do the same thing. TOTAL HYPOCRACY!!!!

Anonymous said...

8:11
I guess if they are going to talk on the phone while driving they need to pay attention so they stay in their own lane! I'm tired of the do as I say not as I do from LE and before you comment with something smart. I have NEVER gotten any tickets, nor have I or anyone in my family been in jail. To get respect you have to earn that respect.

9:55 you've never been there so you have no right to talk. The military are the REAL heroes in uniform. EMS and police have their place but MOST are NOT heroes. Was in the military, saw some jungles, was in the medical field, pulled people out of fires, put men in body bags, etc. So, I can tell you the respect you lose or earn is based on your own actions. Police and Sheriffs have lost respect by the way they have gone about doing their work. Big mouths. Camera freaks. Aggressive. Arrogant. Above the law attitudes. You have the current perception because you earned it. Your continued comments prove you still haven't grown up to wear big boy pants. Take the uni off and get another job if you can't take the citizen criticism you so badly NEED to make positive changes.

You are nuts. I have been in the military and I am now in LE. You can not compare the two. One operates under the rule of total domination. The other operates in a reactive mode. They try to be proactive but truth is that it is reactive.
If you have had a bad experience with a police officer I am sorry. But to lump them all together is the same as if I treated everyone that I stop as if they were Thomas Legs.
Believe me, I can take the criticism, I can be accountable for my actions. If challenged about a issue that I make a mistake in I wil admit my mistake, stick my chin in the air and take one off the kisser. Will you, or will you whine on some blog.

Cops 20 years ago are different from today. THEN, they were not "in your face" Pompus, arrogant, demanding, and you know what's. Today (not all but enough that it common place) are the things listed above. You don't need a bad experience anymore. It happens so often that you just wait for the next story. There are some good cops and sheriffs but you are outnumbered by the bad ones, big time! 4:02 you sound like you are about the only one of a long list on this blog who even cares to listen. Maybe if you can CHANGE the others you've got a chance to get some things done to change the negative perception in our area for police. Remind them who their real boss is - citizens! You know who the bad apples who make it harder on everyone else, give him one on the kisser. If a cop treats me wrong, I'll call him out from a legal standpoint and take his butt to court and defend myself.

First, it's a traffic accident. Everyone has them once or twice in their life, let alone if they are driving around 12 hours a day. Get a grip people.

Emergency vehicle operators are not required to wear seatbelts and they may use their cellular phones under motor vehicle article. Also taxi cab driver's are exempt from wearing seatbelts.

It is unfortunate that you have mistrust of police officers. There are some, a minority, that abuse their powers. If you think that police officers in Salisbury, Maryland or the united states are corrupt or bad people then I suggest you live in mexico, Columbia, Russia, the Caribbean, south america, Arab countries, Argentina, or bastwana for a period of time and compare services, demeanor, and ethics of their respective countries' law enforcement officers.

20 years ago police had more respect because people understood that police keep law and order in a community and so require respect. If you challenged a police officer, you probably would get your teeth knocked out. There was more respect for other citizens and community. 100 years ago if you stole someones cow they hung you. People did not steal cows.

The entire system is broken from juvenile justice, to crime enforcement, elections, politics, to societal acceptance of unethical conduct. 20 years ago you didn't see 1/10 of the crazy stuff you see on television now because it was unacceptable. As society moves toward a more "open" and outwardly lax sense of order, honor and conduct, society will continue to decline.
