Tonight will be the last opportunity for the Barrie Comegys bloc of the Salisbury City Council to waste more taxpayer dollars. Will the bloc, consisting of members Louise Smith, Gary Comegys, and Shanie Shields, support using 2/3 of the city’s CDBG funds to demolish the “Linens of the Week” building.
Weren’t we told that state money would come to handle demolition and remediation?
Mayor Jim Ireton wants to use almost $200,000 of these federal funds to demolish the building. However, it is unlikely that this money will cover the costs due to soil contamination and possible lead and asbestos problems in building itself.
We should remember that opposition to the city acquiring this property was BECAUSE of the COST of demolition and remediation. Now needed infrastructure appointments will not take place so that one property, already taken off of the tax rolls, can continue to move forward and continue to suck tax dollars.

Yet city employees including those that protect you from crime, fire and provide your water will be be furloughed in about 3 months time. But hey, it's ok, because we have The Bricks, Linens of the Week, a fire palace and a fire yacht! That is obviously all that matters to these people.

If they do that, maybe the new council will have the stones to rescind the nonsense. I hope that Laura Mitchell is not an Ireton clone.

As long as Ireton and the majority of the council continue to give department heads what they want the department heads will continue to waste tax dollars. For instance has anyone looked into the massive amounts of money the fire chief is wasting? This guy is pushing for the new fire boat 100%. You would have at least thought Debbie and Terry would have talked him out of it since they voted to hire him. What a waste.
Ireton doesn't let Debbie and Terry talk to any dept. head. He's not better than Barrie Tilghman.
His behavior tonight was totally bonkers. He kept ripping into Debbie Campbell. Then he ripped into Terry Cohen. Then Comegys ripped into Debbie Campbell. It's like the two of them had it planned. Condescending and rude. At one point, Ireton told Cohen, "I'm writing down everything you say."
What a jerk!
The Ladies' crime? They were trying to get protective language into a contract the city had no business being part of.
All Jim Ireotn is doing is carrying out what Barrie left undone.
Could NOT believe the yelling Ireton and Comegys did! Hope Laura Mitchell is not going to support that 6-year-old type behavior.
Hey, 9:17, stop blaming Debbie and Terry for not controling a department head. They can only do so much. I like how everyone thinks those two hardworking ladies can fix everything. They can't especially not with Tantrum Boy as mayor. He's doing everything he complained about Barrie for.

Hey 11:11 PM Debbie and Terry voted with Ireton to bring these tax and spend outsiders in as department heads. They are not completely innocent as you try to portray them to be.

Ireton is losing all the support he gained 2 years ago. The need for searching out a new mayor should have started yesterday.
If council isn't allowed to get information that they seek from dept. heads, what are they to depend on for voting on issues? Propaganda as usual?
