President Barack Obama Announces 2012 Re-election Bid

Recent survey found 47.4 percent of voters approve of performance in office, 46.6 percent disapprove

President Barack Obama announced his 2012 re-election bid Monday in a video on his website.

"We're opening up offices, unpacking boxes, and starting a conversation with supporters like you to help shape our path to victory," read a message on www.barackobama.com.

NBC News reported that he would file his campaign papers with the Federal Election Commission as Monday morning.

Filing with the FEC allows Obama to start raising money for the 2012 campaign that is expected to shatter records in political spending.

Can we see the birth certificate this time???

I would like to think that the Federal Election Commission would ask that a copy of his birth certificate be attached to his filing papers. Is there any reason that they should not ask for something so simple? Everyone should be required to provide a birth certificat in order to run for president.

maybe because they received the same document anyone from Hawaii requesting it would receive the first time. And this document would be the same that any Hawaian would receive if he/she were applying for a passport, ss card, driver's license etc.

obama will now become just another politician who wants to collect his full paycheck while campaigning...only ONLY politicians think they deserve a paycheck while looking for another job. Can you imagine what a private sector employer would say if you told him you were going to take 18 months off to look for another job, but you EXPECT him to pay you in full all the while you do that? And his birth certificate? He will stall, hide, and insult everyone who asks for such a simple and easily produced item. Millions of absolutely stupid Americans will go along with that from the President of the USA.

who the heck took THAT survey?

Obama is enjoying 10:56's campaign contributions.

yeah, stick to the whole birther argument. We'll see how far that gets you during the campaign.

According to those numbers.... the majority of Americans are IDIOTS!

Not sure I trust those numbers, though. Hard to believe that the human race is truly that stupid.

If the President was born anywhere outside of the US (he wasn't) he would still be a citizen because his mother was, so what is the problem?

Drew, you are really dumb...

"A Natural Born Citizen is one who is born of citizen parents. A child born abroad to two US citizen parents is a natural-born citizen: Provided, That at least one citizen parent had a prior residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions. U.S. Code: Title 8, 1401. "

Obama's father was not a citizen

He provided a birth certificate and showed it, he didn't HAVE to but he did...Has anyone else had such a fuss over a birth certificate with any other president? Nope. Is it because he is half black? probably. Yeah I pulled the race card, get over it.

1:32 you are an idiot as well. Do your homework before you pull out your race (trump) card. See below dummy:

Presidential candidates whose eligibility was questioned

While every President and Vice President to date (as of 2010[update]) is widely believed either to have been a citizen at the adoption of the Constitution in 1789 or to have been born in the United States, one U.S. President (Chester A. Arthur) and some presidential candidates either were not born or were suspected of not having been born in a U.S. state.[37] In addition, one U.S. Vice President (Albert Gore) was born in Washington, D.C. This does not necessarily mean that they were ineligible, only that there was some controversy (usually minor) about their eligibility, which may have been resolved in favor of eligibility.[38]

* Chester A. Arthur (1829–1886), 21st president of the United States, was rumored to have been born in Canada.[39][40] This was never demonstrated by his Democratic opponents, although Arthur Hinman, an attorney who had investigated Arthur's family history, raised the objection during his vice-presidential campaign and after the end of his Presidency. Arthur was born in Vermont to a U.S. citizen mother and a father from Ireland, who was eventually naturalized as a U.S. citizen. Despite the fact that his parents took up residence in the United States somewhere between 1822 and 1824,[41] Chester Arthur additionally began to claim between 1870 and 1880[42] that he had been born in 1830, rather than in 1829, which only caused minor confusion and was even used in several publications.[43] Arthur was sworn in as president when President Garfield died after being shot. Since his Irish father William was naturalized 14 years after Chester Arthur's birth,[44] his citizenship status at birth is unclear, because he was born before the 1868 ratification of the 14th Amendment, which provided that any person born on United States territory and being subject to the jurisdiction thereof was considered a born U.S. citizen, and because he was a British subject at birth by patrilineal jus sanguinis.[45] Arthur's natural born citizenship status is therefore equally unclear.

* Christopher Schürmann (born 1848 in New York) entered the Labor primaries during the 1896 Presidential election. His eligibility was questioned in a New York Tribune article, because he was born to alien parents of German nationality. It was stated that "[v]arious Attorney-Generals of the United States have expressed the opinion that a child born in this country of alien parents, who have not been naturalized, is, by the fact of birth, a native-born citizen entitled to all rights and privileges as such". But due to a lack of any statue on the subject Schürmann's eligibility was "at best an open question, and one which should have made [his] nomination under any circumstances an impossibility", because questions concerning his eligibility could have been raised after the election.[46]

* The eligibility of Charles Evans Hughes (1862–1948) was questioned in an article written by Breckinridge Long, and published in the Chicago Legal News during the U.S. presidential election of 1916, in which Hughes was narrowly defeated by Woodrow Wilson. Long claimed that Hughes was ineligible because his father had not yet naturalized at the time of his birth and was still a British citizen. Observing that Hughes, although born in the United States, was also a British subject and therefore "enjoy[ed] a dual nationality and owe[d] a double allegiance", Long argued that a native born citizen was not natural born without a unity of U.S. citizenship and allegiance and stated: "Now if, by any possible construction, a person at the instant of birth, and for any period of time thereafter, owes, or may owe, allegiance to any sovereign but the United States, he is not a 'natural born' citizen of the United States."[47]

There are plenty more if you wish!!

You are forgetting a more recent one. Because John McCain was born on a military base in the Phillipines (I think) the Dems had a hissy fit challenging as to whether or not he was eligible to be POTUS. McCain did however produce a Birth Cert. (a real one, not one produced by a computer)
Nobama refuses to produce his real one which he could do by simply requesting a copy of his long form from HI., however the Dem Gov. of Hawaii says they cant find it (Imagine that). He also refuses to release his school records or college records. If he has nothing to hide why not just release it all and settle the whole matter.

This from a man who says he would run the most tramsparent administration ever. He is a lying joke.

I'll pull the race card, too. If obama was WHITE (100%, that is), and was doing THIS much to avoid producing his birth certificate, not to mention his school records, his social security history, and his family history (and spending MILLIONS to do it) instead of just simply releasing his records and documents (and further assume he was a white REPUBLICAN), the national media would sacrifice animals on the lawn of the White House in order to draw attention to his efforts. They would crucify him in the papers and on TV each and every day until they were given these documents. Whoopi Goldberg would devote MONTHS of TV time to point out how suspicious he was acting. And every media outlet would DAILY compare his campaign promises to what he is actually doing. BUT, he's a liberal black politician. He gets a pass. Yeah, I said it.

Kudos to Imclain's statement. It's the truth

Well, let's see what position he takes this time. Is he going to be honest and campaign as a socialist, left wing liberal, or is he going to try and pull the wool over everyone's eyes again and campaign like a moderate and claim to be a Christian when it's obvious he isn't?

Well, the cons have been throwing everything they have at the President for going on five years now. Nothing has worked, nothing has stuck. The cons fear his greatest qualities. Intelligen¬ce, dignity, character, and strong family life. Some of their people may have one of those qualities, but none has the entire package. Cons fear what they cannot understand or have

The good thing is that, with people being more knowledgeable this time around about what these elections mean, perhaps we can avoid letting one person co-opt the concept of social change for the purpose of career advancement.

Cons fear America becoming a third world debt ridden nation based on this "intelligent family man's" ideas.
