A Letter To The Editor

What Do You Know About Laura Mitchell?

Ms. Mitchell has been able to get through the campaign for Salisbury City Council, with an endorsement from the Daily Times – and tomorrow is Election Day – without providing any specific information about her work history or positions on the issues. Voters won’t know about the latter when they vote, unless she tells all before then (that’s not gonna happen) but they could have the real details of her "significant" experience in municipal finance and as an "accountant" if those in the know will share that information – please send comments – because all we know now is that she is not a CPA.

Four years ago all we knew was that Louise Smith had been an "auditor" somewhere in Florida, but now we know the consequences of electing someone we don’t know. Does anyone recall if the Daily Times endorsed her, too?

I thought "Letters to the Editor" had to be signed before publishing - unless the Editor wrote it - which is than called an Editorial. At least that is the way it works in newspapers, but I guess not on opinionated blogs.

I remove the name because of people like you and Taylor personally attcking them.

Did/does she claim to be a CPA anywhere? I don't know and if she's puffed up her resume then she should be looked at twice and with a critical eye.

Oh no Joe, Taylor would not do that. His "moral compass" would never allow it!

Resume? What resume? That's the point of the article these comments are directed against.

All I have seen is that she kinda is maybe qualified to do a good job as council person because she may have done something similar in skill requirements to what might be required by the position. After all, she probably has done a lot of things. What's the beef?

I'd like to see Smith's resume. Someone told me she was an art teacher and a "bilingual specialist" in Florida. It has me wondering what, if anything, she really did in "audit and compliance."

I don't really doubt Mitchell's claims as to what she did, but more the degree of it. Sort of like Boda claiming he managed the bottom line of a multi-billion dollar company, Wal-Mart. He, like other employees, contribute to any bottom line. He lost my vote over that resume "puff up."

Cohen is what she says she is. I took one of her classes years ago. Best computer class I ever took at Wor-Wic. Spies is what he says he is. I know people who know him from Camden and a friend of mine is veteran who said Spies is "the real deal."

I don't know what I'm going to do about a third vote. Maybe flip a coin. Maybe nothing. I think it stinks we voters have no real information about these other four candidates. After Louise Smith, who can believe what they say anyway? Just words. At least with Spies and Cohen, I can see what they've DONE.

I know Laura and have nothing but respect for her. I can't vote for her unfortunately.

I have nothing against Laura, but I do know a supporter of Louise's who just raves about Laura and says all the same nasty things about Cohen and Spies that SAPOA does. That bothers me a lot.

Anon 1003 -

Perhaps you should try reading a newspaper more often. Many LTE's are signed "Name Withheld".

While I have found Mitchell (and her husband) to be wonderful people, there are questions regarding Laura. Some (whether she is too closely tied to Jim Ireton) can only be speculated on unless she is elected. Others (such as more detail in her CV) are valid questions for voters to ask.

G.A. What is your problem with Jim Ireton?
