Military Diversity Group Says There Are Too Many White Men On Top

As if the military did not have enough to worry about with two wars, troops around the globe and members of Congress calling for the imposition of a no-fly zone over Libya (a defacto act of war), the Military Leadership Diversity Commission (MLDC) Monday released a report informing those in uniform that there are too many white men in their uppermost ranks.

Ordered by Congress in the 2009 National Defense Authorization Act, the report seeks to increase diversity.

“The commission’s recommendations support two overriding and related objectives: (1) that the Armed Forces systematically develop a demographically diverse leadership … and (2) that the services pursue a broader approach to diversity that includes the range of backgrounds, skill sets and personal attributes that are necessary to enhancing military performance,” the report reads.

According to the document, 77 percent of active duty senior officers are white, 8 percent are black, 5 percent are Hispanic and 16 percent are women — something that needs to change, according to the MLDC.

“Leveraging diversity as a vital strategic military resource will require the commitment, vision, and know-how of leaders at every level,” the report continues. “Without this commitment to instill respect for diversity as a core value, the needed cultural change may not take place.”

If there is one sector that should not have affirmative action shoved down their throats, that is our military! Really should we just put a person in charge because the color of his or her skin, or should it be because they have earned it? OBVIOUSLY the people who ran this study have way to much time and money on their hands.

Vital? When I served, killing the enemy and winning was vital.

"Diversity" as a "core value"?? How about the ability to kill the enemy and lead men as a "core value"? This is the kind of stuff that happens when you have people who RAN from their own military obligations, who have never done ANY kind of military service, and believe that the military exists for "career enhancement"...we are turning our military into a politically correct club, where no one wants to critcize a Muslim soldier talking about "jihad" for fear of being labeled "anti-muslim"? And now, good soldiers are going to be denied promotion so that we can celebrate "diversity"??

10:18 I agree 100%! And yes, I'm a black man. The military is likely the #1 organization in the US where race doesn't have a thing to do with how far you can advance. Do your job and serve proudly and you will make it as far as your skills can take you.

I am pretty liberal, but I have to agree with you guys. When I was in, this whole diversity thing was just started. I thought it was ridiculous and completely unnecessary. You should place the mission first. In the military, no one really cared whether you're white or black, male or female. So instead of spending time in the field training, we wasted hours sitting in the classroom listening to worthless JAG lawyer BS.

exactly the reason why I left the military, when I over-heard a group of higher ranking black NCOs state when refering to promotions "we have to take care of our own"...they were the decision makers of who got promotions in the unit.
the world is has gone opposite from what most want to admit.
