Senate Passes Ban On Reading Texts While Driving

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Senate has approved a measure banning people from reading text messages while they are driving.

The Senate passed the bill Monday night 35-11. Violators could be fined up to $500. Drivers also could not read a text message while stopped at a traffic light.

The House of Delegates approved a similar bill last week.

Current law prohibits a driver from using a hand-held device to send a text message while driving, but it still allows a driver to read one.

It's nothing but a tax.

As if this could be enforced.
What a laugh.
Have you noticed the effect of banning the use of hand-held cell phones while driving?
Neither have I. I still see people doing it all the time.
I saw a fellow driving down 13 a while back reading a newspaper.
Maybe that should be banned, as well.

That won't stop all those little girls. I saw one texting going through an intersection the other day with a car right next to her!

Its ALL about the money...people (lots of cops) snickered and ridiculed me when I said that it wouldn't be long before cell phone use became a PRIMARY traffic offense and another revenue stream for the state and another reason for the police to get up close and personal with citizens (yes, your car WILL be SEARCHED for reading a text)....the states need money and the police need a reason to exist. Unless its a cop getting shot, you can be murdered on the street and no one will ever find your killer. Just don't forget to buckle up or put that cell phone away, or there is an ARMY of cops just waiting to pounce on your bad-to-the-bone overly dangerous scofflaw self. With a fine, of course.
