Wicomico County’s “Housing Authority” is trying to screw City residents by getting a western shore developer – Cornerstone Development, LLC” -- to buy the dilapidated 100 unit project and redevelop it (after demolition) with even more (168) apartments – provided that the site is annexed into the City to get the zoning needed for higher density development. What is probably the most crime ridden part of this County is now the problem of the Sheriff’s office, so why should the City want to take on that burden – especially as the developer will want huge tax breaks and no impact fees.
But – hold the phone – the County could rezone the project site to allow the higher density – and thereby avoid the need for it to be annexed into the City. We will keep you involved about this late breaking scam.
