INCOMING!

Now pending in the Maryland Legislature:

SENATE BILL 316 -- "TAX CAP KILLER"

Entitled: Property Tax - Charter Counties - Education Funding

Synopsis:

Authorizing the county council of a charter county to set a property tax rate higher or to collect more property tax revenues than authorized under the county charter under specified circumstances for the sole purpose of funding education; requiring a charter county to appropriate to the local board of education specified revenues and prohibiting a charter county from reducing specified funding to the local board of education under specified circumstances; etc.

This is a Classic example of taxation without representation.

Why is it that a Montgomery County Senator is sponsoring legislation that effects Wicomico County.

Now everyone can visually and physically see why the easternshore should secede from the western shore.

Forget the secession talk; it ain't ever going to happen.

What's frightening is that it might actually pass. However, as I read it the bill DOES NOT require that a higher tax rate be set. Expect to hear from the School Board and the Executive's office that "We have to".

I don't think so. Yes, we could lose state money but they're taking it away anyhow. We need to stand firm and encourage the county council not to allow the state to extort us.
