Paramedic/Firefighter Bruce Ford Announces His Candidacy And Vision For Salisbury City Council

SALISBURY, MD – January 19, 2011  My name is Bruce Ford.  I am running for Salisbury City Council because Salisbury is in a crisis and I feel very strongly that Salisbury’s crime, blight and economic concerns are solvable with focused effort and strong leadership.

Other communities in our region have faced similar if not worse situations and overcome them using collaborative approaches, drawing on the wisdom of all of the community’s major stakeholders.

I was born in Salisbury, raised in Fairmount, and have lived in Salisbury for 13 years.  I have been a career paramedic/firefighter with the Berlin Fire Company for 23 years and a physician’s assistant for 7 years.  I have been married for 13 years.  My four daughters have never known another home than Salisbury.  I work hard to support my family and want to know that they are safe and free to flourish as they grow.

My priorities for the city are to:

·         reduce crime, slum and blight
·         identify a true community vision
·         position Salisbury as a regional economic hub, providing stable, well-paying jobs for city residents.

Please visit www.onesalisbury.org for more detailed information about my vision for the future of Salisbury.
I am Bruce Ford.  Together we can build a city.

I almost choked laughing. Priority #3 won't happen. No one wants to bring major business to Salisbury; low access to major highways, educated work force, and customers. Without priority #3, you won't get much done for priority #1. And without 1 and 3, who cares about 2?

Salisbury sucks! Move already

Okay, I know a bunch of people are going to get on here and start slamming the guy claiming he's a "shill" for Gordy and Co.. Let's give him a chance, and really, REALLY vet him, just like any other candidate running for the first time. And before you attack me, I'm not a firefighter or EMT, just a regular citizen that is getting a little tired of the pedantic ranting about how every firefighter/EMT is a shill for the Gordy camp.

A firefighter would be the last person I would vote for in this town.

identify a true community vision. OK. What is your vision? Be a leader. Tells us what your vision is. Don't wait for the poles or deal in gerneralities. We need leadership! Thanks.

Bruce Ford is not affiliated with the Salisbury Fire Department. He is a career Paramedic with the Berlin Fire Company. He has never been affiliated with the Salisbury Fire Department and is not a "shill" for Chief Gordy. To my knowledge, Chief Gordy does not know Bruce Ford, as he has been calling around to other fire companies asking about him. This is neither good nor bad, simply a fact. Bruce is a hardworking man who has for two decades quietly educated himself and worked for his family. Now he wants to help his community, which is in need, I think we can all agree on that. Give him a chance. He's an intelligent man unindebted to any special interests.

Salisbury doesn't actually "suck." It is full of very good and caring folks. There is a vocal minority who use volume instead of reason when making their points, but Salisbury is actually brimming with intelligent and capable people. Salisbury also has a rich history, a beautiful architectural depth and incredible potential for a high quality of life. To be sure, Salisbury is in crisis, but many only see what isn't. Let's elect some people who see what could be. This election is giving us a good choice with strong candidates. Can we at least celebrate that?

I think one of the problems Salisbury has right now is a crowded room type of chaotic conversation going on. There are so many voices talking over each other that it's turned into something of a kindergarten class at lunchtime, with no one being heard and everyone getting frustrated. It's not productive.

Bruce Ford's website explains the community vision idea pretty clearly. What he's saying is let's organize this confusion by convening a formal process, city wide, all major stakeholders, through a real, formal, tested facilitated process. It will be a challenge to be sure, but the crisis warrants the effort. You say we need a leader. We do! Bruce is saying that he can organize this chaos and form a real plan for the future. That IS leadership.

Didn't Gary Comegys run on the "One Salisbury" slogan? He stole that from O'Malley. Is Ford associated with Comegys? A liberal like O'Malley? A copycat of slogans?

Or just a coincidence and a nice guy who brings something to the table?

I'm willing to take a look and a listen, seriously. But with all these new faces, I am going to take a hard look. I don't want to fall victim to another Louise Smith.

just what we need a fire company enployee, doesnt matter which town he works, just be more wasteful spending for our fire co,

6:43, me too. But it's going to be a hard hard look. Cohen's already got my vote. But of all the new faces, the Spies guy is the only one I've ever seen taking a stand at the podium or working for the community. Not saying the others don't volunteer and stuff.

But if they were so concerned about how the government is run, where the hell have they been? I knew who Cohen was before she ran because she gave a damn enough to stick her neck out for people before she got the notion to run.

Makes a difference to me. People who just pop up like Louise Smith give me the heebie jeebies now.

Bruce is a good hearted, intelligent man that should be given a chance. He definately is not one to condone wasting money!

As long as this guy is not a shill for that blow hard Gordy let's give him a chance. Gordy is one of the problem people who thinks his money will get him what he wants. Just look at what damage his jerk off son has done in the Fire Department. But that doesn;t make all fireman bad.

Bruce Ford and Gary Comegys, to my knowledge, have never met. If Comegys ran on One Salisbury also, it is a coincidence that Bruce has chosen the same slogan. The One Salisbury idea stems from Bruce's daughter's idea that "Together We Can Build a City", one city that works together.

And believe me, give Bruce a chance to voice his feelings about wasteful spending. The fiscal conservatives out there won't be dissapointed. He walks the walk with his personal finances and at his workplaces he considers the taxpayer when maintaining equipment and ordering medical tests, etc. He gives good care, always, but he also remembers that taxpayers are paying the bills.

Wasn't impressed with his lack of bedside manner and poor communication skills at Your Doc's In in Salisbury.

Bruce is a very nice guy but he is to liberal for me. I am impressed that he worked as a paramedic and worked his way through college to be a Physician Assistant, but he is way to liberal for me.

I am glad to see Bruce Ford run for city election, but we need to find individuals who are more conservative. Right now my two choices are Terry Cohen and Tim Spies. I would like to find another conservative candidate, but if I don't Terry and Tim will get the 2 votes I cast. I don't need another liberal democrat and Obama supporter spending my hard earned tax dollars.
