OCPD LOCATE HIDDEN COMPARTMENT DURING SEARCH OF CAR INTERIOR

On January 16, 2011, at approximately 3:15 a.m., Ocean City Police officers stopped a vehicle for a seat belt violation.

During the traffic stop, a police K9 conducted a drug scan of the vehicle.

While scanning the car, the K9 alerted indicating the presence of illegal drugs. A subsequent search of the vehicle by police revealed a make-shift hidden compartment located in the dashboard. Officers noted a very strong odor of marijuana emanating from the car’s interior. Officers then located a quantity of suspected marijuana while searching the car’s interior.

The driver identified as Cory Lamont White, 33, of Princess Anne, and the passenger Corey Durand Jones, Sr. 31, of Salisbury, were arrested.

They have each been charged with possession of marijuana and possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia.

Both were seen by an Ocean City District

Come on with this stuff, how much money would you be able to save and put into services if we didnt mess with simple stuff like this. Most wont get a lawyer they will use the PD and drain more resources, if they go to jail, more resources. Simplify it, A fine and be on your way. Personal consumtion amounts.

Congradulations Ocean City, you've taken two more relaxed people out of society. I can now visit your fair city with no worries. And just think about all the doughnuts you saved for you and your buddies. Way to go guys. You, are a credit to the badge.

I agree.. such a waste of time & money! In all honestly, were they really stopped for a seat belt violation or were the cops bored late at night.. how could you even see the seatbelt at 3:15am?
The tri-counties are having more murders, gang related activity, random shootings and places being robbed, but the police want to spend the time, money and resources to arrest someone for marijuana???? Then court fees to fight such a small battle...I agree with the above comments.. a fine and be on your way... Can we focus on REAL crimes?

Now, you see the REAL reason selt belt violations were turned into a "primary offense". It wasn't anything to do with our "safety" or some legislators "concern' for our lives. It was EVERYTHING to do with MONEY and the ability of the police to stop you for an "up close and personal" look. Look for the cell phone ban to become a "primary offense" soon, too, despite what all the police say NOW.

I wholeheartedly agree with 11:48, I think time and money can be better spent then tying up both for simple posession of marijuana. It has been around for many years and will continue to be used/abused. If there is sufficient amount to be considered as more than personal consumption, indicating dealing, that is different matter. But I really feel frustrated when I watch Cops or shows of that ilk and they are arresting people with residue in a pipe. If first offense they are only going to get a slap on the wrist anyway so why tie up courts, lawyers, etc. I was an LEO back in the 70s when drugs were running rampant, especially marijuana and the perps would be back on the street smoking again before I finished the paperwork. It was my experience if the user had a small baggie it would hurt them more to make them pour it out. I know, I know that many have not been kosher but I have hoped many times that due to being given a break that some of them gave up the habit and appreciated the break. jackkcharl@aol.com

WASTE OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS>! enough is enough- lets petition for a carry law on in MD!!

Philadelphia wont prosecute anything under an ounce unless distribution is suspected- why cant we follow that model.

Wow, Mr Richards. Never would of quessed. The worst thing about pot I think as I get older is it is money spent on something that could be better spent for ones future.

Im Clain,
Hear here!

First they stop you for not wearing a seat belt because the "care" about you.

Then the violate your rights by searching and confiscating your property.

No body was harmed, no property was damaged. Yet this poor guy faces a prison term for possessing an "illegal plant".

Who is the government to tell us what we can eat drink or smoke? Really?

Im Clain & 6:40,
You both are wrong, the insurance companies lobbied to have the seat belt turned into a primary offense. They saw a huge reduction in medical treatment and hospital trips when the seat belt law went into affect. They then saw an even greater reduction when it became primary.

I know that doesn't fit into your conspiracy theory big brother out to get you attitude but it is the truth, just take time and research first before stating.

9:34...Why don't you take the time to learn to read above the 3rd grade level....I DID say it was about the money. It was 4 sentences and you managed (in your zeal to denigrate me) to miss something? What? You have ADHD and need a disability check? Furhter, don't discount the fact (FACT) that the police also lobbied for a "primary" offense status. I suppose claiming you didn't use your turn signal to change lanes on an empty highway at 3:30am wasn't good enough reason to pull people over anymore. C'mon....if you don't there are nefarious (conspiracy, if you will) reasons our government does things, then you are NOT paying attention. And don't forget the money angle. But it has absolutely NOTHING ---at all --- to do with the police or legislators having a "concern" for our "safety" or "well-being". Thats just the best angle they can take to do what they do and get citizens like YOU to applaud.

Yet another unintended consequence of legislation that was lobbied by one group and used by another group. Our levels of government Fed/state/local try to legislate stupidity (its stupid to drive w/o a seatbelt) and the populace has to abide, while losing personal responsibility one little law at a time.
