Craig Ashley - Cpl. for Wicomico County Sheriff's Office and his Family were devastated yesterday when their home caught on fire and completely burned, losing absolutely everything. We are reaching out to ALL of our readers to please step up to the plate and help this Family. It's my understanding they have secured a place to live but remember Folks, they lost everything, including ALL Christmas Presents. The list below should help everyone. My heart is broken for this family. Thank God they were able to make it out of the house. Everyone should remember that Christmas is the time of giving and this family needs the community to come together and help them. Please open your hearts and help in any way you can.

A big supporter of the WCSO and all the men and women who put their lives on the line everyday to protect us!
They did NOT lose their Christmas presents, but also need basic necessities beyond clothes.
This could not have happened to nicer people. I'm glad the family is safe. I was also under the understanding that the kids gifts were not lost. Nonetheless, they will need to replace everything. Thinking and praying for the Ashley family!
When you have a fire like this you lose the simplest things to the biggeest...toothbrushes and personal care items, paperwork, clothing, furniture, pots and pans. Folks, when you go about your day today in your home everytime you wuse, look at, or touch something, think about it being gone in an instant. No lives were lost and that is a tremendous blessing. The next blessing will be the sense of calm and good fortune that sets in when you feel your community (including people you don't even know) gathering around your family and helping you to make your way back to normal through piles of rubble and massive amounts of insurance papers a little easier. As a fire victim, I can tell you that it is the most uplifting thing. Random acts of kindness should never be underestimated.
The Red Cross responded to this fire and assisted the family.
House fires happen every day of the week on the Lower Shore but everyone always thinks it's worse when it happens around the holidays.
It's tragic no matter WHAT time of the year this happens to someone and people should help YEAR ROUND, not just at Christmas time.

Where did you get this fact from? I am in one of the busiest fire departments on the lower shore and we get less than 1 house fire a month?? Many of the departments surrounding us rarely get 1 a year!!
Another wannabe "hero" farmin trying to make himself look like something he is not.

Information on the number of families displaced from fire on the Lower Shore.
The number of families displaced by fire in the tri-county area(Somerset, Wicomico & Worcester counties) is certainly not a daily occurrence thankfuly.
However families are displaced by fire more frequently than most people know about. Many of them not making the news. The AVERAGE is one family every 5 to 7 days for a given year. Some years it's higher and some years it's lower.

The family appreciates all the kind words and donations that have been made or given, at this time the family could really use gift cards to area vendors, this will allow the family to get what they need as they need it as not to have an over abundance of one thing. After speaking with Craig this afternoon, they are definetely looking for a twin bed for their daughter Madison, and a queen or king size bed for he and his wife, they have been given a crib for their 6 month old as well as a christmas tree so the little ones can have christmas on christmas morning. The family did not have their already purchased christmas presents in the house. A huge thank you to all who have sent their thoughts, prayers and donations thus far to the family, May God Bless You, and Have Safe and Merry Christmas.

I taught Craig Ashley "back in the day." He is one of the finest young men I ever taught and comes from an equally wonderful family. How tragic. I hope that everyone will help as much as possible.
The Sheriff's dept is at 401 Naylor Mill Road, a mile or two west of 13.
If any friends and family of photos scan/copy them for this family. They lost wedding pics, baby pics, special pics that bring on a special memory to them. Lets do what we can to make a photo album for them.
As for the other things that they lost, as I go to the store I'll be picking up things that we take for granted.
Friends and family of the Ashley family have pulled together a king size bed and twin bed for madison. We are thankful there are so many kind and generous people in this community. Thank you everyone for helping Shannon, a dear dear friend of mine, and her family.
Joe, u can post as a comment or a new post. I spoke to Craig and Shannon just this evening and have taken lots of calls and emails today. I have a list of large items that if needed they are only a phone call away.
Just an update on what has already been donated. The Ashley's have living room furniture, king bed, full bed, crib and changing table. As mentioned in the earlier comment, gift cards would be wonderful right now. Thank you to everyone that has called, donated and offered their time.

3:12 - lower shore doesn't just mean Salisbury. It's the lower part of DE, MD and VA. Look outside your little world and you will see what I mean. The news reported on another housefire today! Why do you have to be negative right away and how do you know the person was a fireman? Maybe they are in the insurance world and see things first hand, you ignorant cracker.
