Dec 25th is Christmas and thats what its all about, so "Merry Christmas" is the thing to say. We need to remember whats its all about. If you are talking about Christmas & New Years then I guess Happy Holidays is ok. Gary B

At work I say Happy Holidays and everywhere else it is Merry Christmas. There is professional work language and then language you use at other times.

10:21- what are you talking about? The correct phrase anywhere is Merry Christmas! I work with the public and I say Merry Christmas every single time regardless of the person or their religion. If they don't like it, tough, this is AMERICA and we're a CHRISTIAN nation!! 10:21 and others, never let your job or paycheck get in the way of who you are and what you believe in. The latter is much more important.

If I know I'm talking to a Christian, I say Merry Christmas.

10:32AM, Right on, Christ is the reason for Christmas.

Jesus is the reason for the season. Merry Christmas. I don't cater to people that think they can have their rights and take mine away. If they don't like it, they don't have to respond. Merry Christmas everyone.

I say "Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays". This way I cover Christmas and New Years. Merry Christmas always said first. This is America if you don't like our traditions and beliefs leave and give up your US citizenship, if you are a citizen. If you chose to stay then you work on that day instead of enjoying the day off with pay. This goes for all of our Holidays you disagree with or ashamed of.

Depends who I'm speaking to. If it is a Jewish friend or acquaintance, I say Happy Hanukkah or Happy Holidays; most others it's Merry Christmas. At times, depending on when in December I do say Happy Holidays as it encompasses the whole season of well-wishing. I've never had anyone complain that I did not say Merry Christmas.

I guess the ones who complain the most are the also the ones who insist that I can only speak to God and seek Jesus in a Church. Remember, Jesus did not preach his word in a church, but to his followers out in the open. I choose to seek my God in the nature he created, not in a formal Church setting that has come to be about money and trappings of wealth.

I also seem to remember from my teachings that Jesus accepted and loved all, no matter what lifestyle or faith - including those who ultimately executed him. Especially at this time of year, it would be nice to see more kindness displayed, in life and in the blogosphere.

Merry, Merry, Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy New Year! cj

Merry Christmas is what we are celebrating. The birth of Christ is the most important birthday you will ever celebrate in your life! It is a persons right to have their own beliefs or religion. This day celebrates only one and should never change in our country.

This country was founded on Christian beliefs by Christians it's Merry Christmas .

Merry Christmas Everyone and have a Happy New Year !!

Anonymous said...

Always Merry Christmas - if others don't like it, I'm sorry I'm not politically correct, but in America it has always been and always will be Merry Christmas to me, so....Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year too.

Merry Christmas. I was raised with Merry Christmas I celebrate Christmas and I will continue to say Merry Christmas. Even when I worked in retail I said Merry Christmas because that is MY belief so why should I have to change what I believe in to satisfy someone else!?

Unbelievable that this discussion goes on and on and on.

Are you Holier Than Thous going to go shoot Andy Williams for singing a song called "Happy Holidays"?

That's one of my alltime favorite Christmas songs. (I'll be an Andy Williams fan to my grave.)

When I was growing up, everyone said "Happy Holidays" without anyone getting their nose out of joint. Why? Because New Year's Day is also a holiday just a week later. The phrase for us covered both of them. We also knew Jewish friends in our community often celebrating Hanukkah at the same time.

We also said, "Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Glad Tidings, Happy Hanukkah" and any other greeting that fit the person.

I appreciate what Balanced Libra said. I have never seen so many people be so angry and just plain mean about something so trivial that had its beginning long before there was ever a term "politically correct."

Guess these mean people won't listen to "White Christmas" either because a Jew wrote it.

I'll say whatever greeting fits the occasion and the person since I try to respect others, but if you aren't Christian enough to accept a heartfelt greeting graciously, well, then, Jesus help you! This is no better than an impolite child complaining that a gift on Christmas wasn't good enough!

Merry Christmas anti-Americans !

Christmas Day is an official national holiday. Saying "Merry Christmas" within the US is protected speech under the 1st amendment. I make no excuses for anyone who doesn't want to hear that.

I also say "Happy New Year" which also refers to an official national holiday.

There are no other days recognized as a national holiday this time of year.

Merry Christmas! That is what we say at this holiday season. If you don't like it, pick another day and call it what you want.

I'm a Christian, I'm only part Jewish because My lord and Savior was Jewish. I say Merry or Happy Christmas to everyone. Working or not. If someone finds this offensive, they haven't said anything. And if they did, I'de say "Bless You", because I believe wishing someone a Merry Christmas is a Blessing and a Gift I give to them from My Lord. Merry Christmas to you All.
