What a sad story-- I'm sure this mother feels terrible about doing what she had to do.
The real shame is that the father wasn't there to deal with it.
This scenario of out-of-control children in single-parent families occurs everywhere, every day.
And our jails are full of these children.
If you're one of those who think this isn't a problem-- just read the police blotter.

Man oh man. I know who would have gotten the abuse once my mom told my dad that I had punched her! What a crazy time we are in when you have to take your child to the police for discipline.

I know it was hard, but you did the right thing Ms. Jarvis. God Bless You.

This generation of kids is spoiled and expects everything immediately. Why are they so angry and out of control?! My generation has completely failed as parents.

But what's sickening is when you hear a parent in a store tell a young child that if they don't behave the parent is going to call the police on them. Correct your kids and don't make them afraid of the police.

11:03am, your soooo right!! ..and to think, this generation is our next "leaders of the free world" what a joke!! most of them cant even write out a check, address an envelope, or, above all, be well mannered and polite!! the 10-15yr old demographic is fubar!!!!!!

I'm glad that this mother finally stood up to this little punk. He obviously has some serious issues that need to be addressed. I don't care who you are, no one has the right to physically punch another human being. A swat on the butt is one thing to correct a small child, but to physically attack his own mother and abuse her is a sign that he has very, very serious issues. She may have just done the best thing she could ever do for him. Sometimes tough love is the only way to get through.
