AAA: Gas Prices Reach High For The Year

WASHINGTON - Gas prices could put another dent in your holiday budget this year.

The price of gas in the area has reached a high for 2010, hitting an average of $2.96 for regular in the D.C. Metro Region as of Friday, according to the weekly AAA Weekend Gas Watch survey. AAA says that's 32 cents a gallon higher than at this time last year and 8 cents higher than a week ago.

The price of crude oil hit $89.19 on Friday, fueling the gas price hike. AAA predicts crude could reach $90 a barrel very soon, which could send gas prices even higher.

Current and Past Gas Price Averages
12/05/10Week AgoYear Ago
National$2.94$2.86$2.64
D.C. Metro$2.96$2.88$2/64

AAA says the weakened U.S. dollar and a sharp rise in heating oil pushed crude oil up to its highest price in 25 months.

I am sure there is a place to find the answer to this question, but I don't know where so here's the question! Has the price of gas ever not risen during the holiday season?
As far as I can recall the gas prices always seem to go up before Thanksgiving/ Christmas.

8:41, according to the idiots on the far right and left, the pres. sits behind his desk and tweeks a dial that raises/lowers the price each day

the answer lies in the feds quantitative easing. it is devaluing the dollar in an attempt to pay off our huge debt. therefore the dolar buys less the price of oil goes up and we the taxpayers get screwed again

A bit of topic but what does everyone think about using corn as a heating source? (Corn Stoves) All of the stoves seem a little high but if it truly does produce 80% efficiency wouldn't it be much cheaper than using any other heating source and it would add a little extra to the pockets of corn farmers.

First they monetize the debt. Then they make us pay them back for the money they created out of thin air! With interest!

Unbelievable

This is just a conspiracy by George Bush and his oil friends.
Oh wait, GW hasn't been Presidant since Jan 2009.
Couldn't be the Dumbocrats and their failed policies with the Fed could it?
Oh, BTW Obammy just announced that he is reinstating the moratorium on off shore oil drilling. just a coincidence that we are paying at the pump? Must be.

Many of your better quality pellets stoves will burn wood pellets or corn. I would imagine wood pellets would be cheaper than the corn. They seem to be using corn for everything. Maybe that is why things are going up. Everyone is growing corn and not all the other things they used to grow.

Thank you 11:37. I was reading some literature about the corn stoves and it had mentioned something like 45% of the countries corn crop goes to waste so I was curious if it would be cheaper, but you do raise a good point that a lot of production is involving corn lately.
