BALTIMORE (AP) - Republican Andy Harris defeated freshman Democratic Rep. Frank Kratovil on Tuesday with promises of a conservative approach to restoring America's economic vigor.
Beaming at chants of "USA! USA!" the conservative state senator told supporters at a Kent Island crab house that lower taxes and smaller government were the keys to job creation.
"We're going to make sure that America remains a land of opportunity," said Harris, an obstetric anesthesiologist who teaches at Baltimore's Johns Hopkins University.
With 90 percent of precincts reporting, Harris had 54 percent of the vote to Kratovil's 42 percent.
Libertarian Richard Davis got 4 percent in a rematch of the 2008 election for all three candidates.
Harris will represent Maryland's 1st Congressional District, which includes the Eastern Shore and parts of the counties of Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Harford.

I dont need to read more. I voted for him because of his honesty, his outlook, overall demeanor. If he proves us correct he will have a long stay.
Goodbye to Frank! Voters didn't buy his "independant" Lie. We knew better this time around.
Guess we don't have to worry about seeing the carpetbagger on the Eastern Shore for another two years. The silver lining.
Kratovil got way more votes than he deserved. It was interesting to note how he supported so many measures that killed jobs and hurt businesses, then coerced administrators to serve favors up to a few in exchange for support/rewards - auto bailouts = closed dealerships = support/contributions = restored dealership. Couldn't leave things alone so his former constituents will leave him alone.
"Tossed Kratovil"...LMAO
Whatcha got to say now Chuckie Boy and Jim Boy! What happened to Kratosmell?
Buh Bye!!
As a Democrat, I found Kratovil's ads about independance disgusting.
Now if we can only get Mr indpendent to return to taxpayers his generous Health Benefits along with his annual salary he will receive the rest of his life.
knowledgibleone, you're not very "knowledgible" after all. You see, you have to be in Congress for 20 YEARS before you get those benefits for life. That's why Gilcrest was so pissed off after 18 years he lost it all.
