Nothing short of a revolution. That's the only way to describe the public upheaval that took place yesterday.
Nancy Pelosi has been fired, the Senate is far more balanced and President Obama was resoundingly rebuked. Republican governors could control upwards of 30 statehouses when the smoke clears. That's what you call a consequential election.
As predicted, the explosion of government cost and the economic slump were the driving factors for voters. The results immediately reinvigorate the checks and balances inherent in the two-party system and bring a needed dose of fiscal sanity to Washington and the states.
Yet those are only the most obvious outcomes. The real meaning of yesterday is much more profound.
Let me put it this way: With apologies to Michelle Obama, I've never been more proud of my country. Millions of ordinary Americans rebuffed the harangues and lectures of their supposed betters and dared to take the future into their own hands.

I'm reminded of Obama's quote 'never let the highs get too high or the lows too low". People might not like Dems. but they sure aren't in love with Reps. either. But now that this election is over can we please come back to some sense of sanity as we hash out the best solutions for the country. It's going to take some give and take from both parties to get anything moving which is the good thing about having a gov. divided.

The TEA party is very responsible for the direction of this election by bringing a lot of light on what were once dark and hidden issues. It gained strength and momentum and will continue to hold the newly elected to their promises of controlling spending, lowering taxes, and bringing private sector jobs back.
We will not be going away like many of our elected officials would want us to!
Please calm down. We still have a democaratic senate and a democrat President. BTW we also have a democrat in Annapolis, and both senators, and your county executive and your mayor.
I guarantee that Obama's rating will go up 10-15 points when people see republican house blocking every decent bill.
Pendulum seems to be swinging every 2 years, so in 2 years Obama will be reelected, especially if you wingnuts ran Sarah Palin.

10:44, actually I agree with the overall premise of small government and low taxes that the Tea Party expounds. But in order to get there we need people who actually take a hard realistic analysis of the budget. Not dummies spouting slogans (i.e. O'Donnell). The people screaming about Obama tax hikes (which never came)and welfare recipients chewing up the budget (also not true)are just as bad as the dummies on the left who believe we can legislate/buy our way to Utopia.

The Republicans can't get us out of this mess. They don't have the power. Anything they approve in the House will get denied by the Senate. Then it will go back to the House and will need a 2/3 majority, which is 290 seats. The Republicans do not control 290 seats. Even if Congress passes a Republican sponsored bill, the President will veto it and 290 seats will be needed again. The system will be a complete gridlock and two years from now the people will look back and say, "wait we put these republicans in here to shake things up and they didn't do anything". So you'll see Obama get reelected and the Democrats take back the majority. Strategically, winning the House and not winning the Senate was not very smart.

I'm not a fan of what's happened in the last 2 years just like many of you aren't, but it took more than 2 years to get to where we are and any smart person knows, you can't fix it all in 2 years!
We'll all come back here 2 years from now and hopefully someone will be able to attest to what improved in our country from now till then.
I really do hope there will be some positive changes but in the meantime, I won't hold my breath and I will be hanging on to every penny I can in anticipation of the tax increases coming.
