ANNAPOLIS – More than thirty voters in more than half of Maryland’s counties have reported voting machines falsely selecting Democrat candidates to the Maryland Republican Party’ Voter Hotline. In each case, voters reported their ballot summary screen had improperly chosen a Democrat candidate when they had actually voted Republican. MDGOP highlighted similar issues during early voting and it appears the issue has not been resolved. Maryland Republican Party Chairman Audrey Scott issued the following statement today in response to the machine malfunctions:
“I urge every Maryland voter to be vigilant while voting and to double check their ballot before casting their vote. Reports coming into the MDGOP Voter Hotline echo similar malfunctions that occurred during early voting and represent a disturbing trend as in all instances the machine defaulted to the Democrat candidate. The Maryland Republican Party brought this issue to the attention of the State Board of Elections last week and we are disappointed to hear the problem continues to persist. In an election with close races across the state it’s essential all votes are counted properly and these continued reports of machine errors are unacceptable.”

Fruitland Primary voting machine number 1 default must be set to Kratovil. It took me 3 attempts for it to finally accept Harris as my vote. I would vote Harris and it registered Kratovil.

youre up to date on goings-on...can you tell me why i saw the comptrollers race in maryland being reported on wboc but i do not remember having the opportunity to vote on that last week (early voter). i live in wicomico county; shouldnt i have gotten a say in that race?
When Maryland introduces the touch screen voting I said to my self, There is no way I am going to cast a ballot on one of those machines. I have voted absentee in all elections where screen voting machines have been used.

Anything mechanical will fail eventually, so stop crying everytime and blaming it on conspiracy when a machine fails. The question should be who last serviced it.
It appears that they've found a good way to rig these machines without an auditable trail-- the selections are changed between the time they are made and the final summary screen. So, if you don't LOOK CAREFULLY at the summary page (which most people don't) and just hit the button to submit the ballot, you're locked in. And they can say that you had your chance to check the votes, so what you submitted will stand as your final vote.
Very clever. And there's no need to fuss with your local election officials (I'm an election judge) because if this happened, it was done within the programming of the machine, so it would be at a high level, not local. There's nothing election judges could do about it but report it if it was called to their attention by voters who saw it. And who knows what will happen (if anything) after it's reported.
ALWAYS CHECK THE SUMMARY SCREEN CAREFULLY !! Once you submit the ballot, that's your vote.
My problem with the computers is that whoever has access to the machine would only have to change a few lines of programming code to make it do what they wanted. It would not be hard to do at all.

The corporations who make the machines designed them so that the code is secret and even our government does not have the codes. ONly the corporation can alter the machines. Ie. the corproations can control the validity of the elections!
They also designed them to NOT PRINT A RECEIPT. If an ATM prints a receipt for your transaction, why can't the voting machine? The receipt could then be dropped into the box like the old fashioned ballots and then a proper audit could ocurr of the receipts.
You are both correct, the machines are designed to produce no possibility of paper audit.

I worked with these machines in Maryland the first year they were introduced.
There is NO way you can tamper with these machines at the polling place and NO way that these machines can be "precoded" or it would show up on a report printed before the polls even open!
So shut up and quit your whining!
