Hi Joe,
"here is something maybe you can post or idea to go on...I'm all about sharing the road with bicycle riders..but it is really getting out of hand. On several different occasions I've had them basically play chicken with me, i see them all the time go against traffic where they are getting hit, and they are some who are riding them while they are either stoned or drunk. Do they not know they have to obey traffic laws like vehicles??? I am beginning to think maybe they should start handing out license to drive a bicycles if your going use them as a mode of transportation....I don't mean kids who ride them for recreation..I'm talking about adults who know better. Anyway I am just fed up with those who are not considerate of others on the road. Not to mention there is that ole saying law of tonage."

kids are as bad as the adults, ive had them come out from side roads, had to slam on breaks to avoid hitting them, without stopping at stop signs
Same can be said about scooters. I had 2 completely blocking the road riding side by side this past weekend. What is the law about scooters and traffic?
Bikes and scooters are supposed to obey the traffic laws. And other traffic must by law treat them as they would any other vehicle traffic. They don't have to get out of your way and you can't just run them off the road because they are slower and smaller than you.
The avid cyclists get to me. They are arrogant and feel that the world should stop when they are riding through. They don't follow the rules of the road and one group yelled at one of my neighbors because his dog was barking at them. They have a right to ride, but they need to follow the laws and realize they are visiting our neighborhoods. If they don't like the conditions ride somewhere else!
The Seagull Century riders are the worst. Many of them ride in the middle of the road/street and refuse to move to the right where they are supposed to be. In the meantime you are stuck with a whole line of cars behind you.
I agree with 10:37 AM. We live in a development near the airport. We call them "stupid bicycle people." We tolerate them because of the county's revenue increases when they come to town. They need to sign a contract with the rules of the road in bold print. One of them urinated in my daughter's front yard last year facing her house. I guess they don't realize that children do look out the windows to watch the bikes go by. I detest going places during the day when they are out. I go to town after dark and hope and pray that they have enough sense not to ride in the dark.

10:37 - Show me the law that says "they must move to the right".
This is what causes trouble, they have as much right to that lane as you do. They do NOT have to move over.
10:57, when the speed limit on this road is 50 mph, they do NOT need to be riding in the middle of the road.
10:55, by your post, I am guessing we don't live too far from you. It's really awful the attitudes that they have. I am just thankful that the Seagull Century is not the same weekend as Bike Week. I think I would just stay home. Yes, I am glad of the money it all brings to our local economy. These people just need to be respectful of our area and roads. And that's my two cents.
11:31 - a speed LIMIT is just that, a LIMIT. It's a maximum, not to exceed speed, not a required speed. If there's a posted MINIMUM speed, then you'd have a case.
They're safer in the middle of the road where you dummies can't try to run them off the road with your big trucks.
The original article was in complaint about bicyclists not obeying traffic laws or riding while stoned and drunk. Us cyclists that are out there obeying the laws are also taxpayers and put as much money, if not more into the county roads we are riding on than all of you complainers. Riding a bike is a sport and mode of exercise. Why does everyone have to complain about everything anymore?
Do you really need a sign to tell you what to do?
If you are riding a bike and a bunch of cars are behind you, don't you move over?
If you don't move over, are you surprised when someone throws a diet coke at you as they pass? Or spits on you? Or curses you?
I know I would be moving over.
12:42- The speed "limit" on rt 50 is 55, and they don't ride in the middle of the road there, they would be killed. Whatever road it is, they need to move over. They make the roads more dangerous.
@9:59 The "arrogant" avid cyclists were probably yelling at your neighbor because his dog was not on a leash, outside the house. Have you ever gone over the handlebars at 25 MPH because a dog has run out in the road? Let me tell you... it's not fun.
3 feet is the amount of space a cyclist legally has... show some patience and GO AROUND, do not run us off the road.
"If you are riding a bike and a bunch of cars are behind you, don't you move over?"
youre really not asking this are you? this is the eastern shore, NO ONE moves over. they will continue to do 35mph in the fast lane with 30 cars behind them....
(kinda like the crackhead that was on northwood this morning doing 15mph with 8 cars behind him) - no respect.
I dread driving in some parts of Salisbury because of all the drunken bicyclists.Especially around the Transit place people jaywalk too.
