Students who want to explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) topics and careers should check out the STEM Saturdays classes that will be offered free of charge during the 2010-11 school year.
STEM Saturdays were a hit during the 2009-10 school year, and this year classes have been added for students in grades 4-5 as well as middle school. Classes this year, in addition to the first class on Oct. 9, are:
Nov. 13:
The Science Behind Winning (elementary) and Robotics (middle), both at Salisbury Middle
Jan. 15:
Green Keepers: Going Green to Preserve Our World (elementary) and The Bug Detective (middle), both at Salisbury Middle
Feb. 12:
The Magic of Chemistry (elementary) and Out of Sight: Bringing Astronomy Down to Earth, both at Salisbury Middle
March 12:
Flying Wild: Bird Science and Conservation (elementary) at Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art
Fossils of the Chesapeake: A Hands-On Exploration (middle) at Parkside High
April 9:
The Bug Detective (elementary) and The Science Behind Winning (middle), both at Salisbury Middle
Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Please click on the attached flier to print, fill out, and return as directed on the form. Students may register for all of the classes, or only the ones that suit the student’s interests and schedule.

I understand that STEM is a wonderful program. My nephews wanted to attend but their mother was told it was only for Wicomico County students. They live in Wicomico and pay taxes, but attend private school in Salisbury. This is unfair and just plain wrong! So you have to pay for Wicomico county schools, but you can't take advantage of any of the benefits you pay for?!
