TROOPERS ARREST KIDNAPPING SUSPECT ON I-95 - VICTIMS RESCUED

(PERRYVILLE, MD) – A kidnapping suspect was arrested and his victims rescued by a Maryland state trooper on I-95 late last night less than an hour after the lookout was received.

The accused is identified as Deivi M. Polanco, 30, of Alpharetta, Georgia. After consultation with the Cecil County State’s Attorney’s Office, Polanco is being charged with kidnapping, two counts of child abduction, false imprisonment, and violation of a temporary protective order. After his initial appearance before a District Court commissioner, Polanco is being held in the Cecil County Detention Center on $750,000 bond.

The victims are identified as Patricia Rodriguez, 28, the estranged wife of the accused, and her two children, Sylvestri Polanco, 1, and Deivi Polanco, 2. All three victims are from the Bronx, NY.

At about 11:00 p.m. yesterday, Maryland State Police at the JFK Memorial Highway Barrack were contacted by the East New Brunswick Police Department. An officer advised they were investigating a kidnapping complaint from Rodriguez. She called and reported she and her two children had been taken against their will by the accused and were being driven to Georgia. She gave a description of the Jeep they were traveling in.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., a trooper on patrol from the JFK Highway Memorial Barrack spotted the Jeep traveling at a high speed southbound on I-95 in Cecil County. After calling for backup, the trooper stopped the Jeep. The accused, who had been driving, immediately surrendered and was arrested without incident.

The three victims were in the Jeep and were found unharmed. Rodriguez told troopers they had not been harmed during the ordeal. She said they had been staying at a home for women in New York City and Polanco had traveled from Georgia to New York allegedly to give her money for food. When he arrived, he offered to take her to the store for food. When the three victims got into his Jeep, Polanco said they were not going to the store, but instead were going to Georgia.

At about 3:30 a.m. today, while at the barrack, Polanco had some type of seizure and was transported to the Harford Memorial Hospital for treatment. He was later released and taken to the court commissioner for a bond hearing.

A relative of the three victims responded to the barrack to pick them up. They have been transported safely to an undisclosed location.
