Justice Sues Arizona (Again) In Green-Card 'Hurdles'

The Justice Department has brought yet another legal challenge against Arizona, accusing the Maricopa County Community College District in Phoenix of illegally asking foreign nationals to show their Permanent Resident Cards, or "green cards," before being offered jobs in the 10-college system.

The lawsuit alleges that the school district engaged in a "pattern or practice of discrimination by imposing unnecessary and discriminatory hurdles to employment for work authorized non-citizens," and seeks a penalty of $1,100 for each of 247 non-U.S. citizens identified during a yearlong investigation.

The Aug. 30 lawsuit, first reported by the Arizona Republic, said the school district required noncitizen job applicants to present additional work authorization documents beyond those required by law, but did not require U.S. citizens to do the same.

Tom Gariepy, spokesman for the community colleges, said the district would have no comment on the lawsuit.

The Justice Department said Maricopa Community Colleges "imposed different and greater documentary requirements on the 247 non-U.S. citizens identified in the probe, and did not end this practice until January 2010, well after the Justice Department initiated its investigation."

The lawsuit said Zainul Singaporewalla, in applying for a job with the school system, completed a Homeland Security Employment Eligibility Verification Form and produced a driver's license and Social Security card saying he was a lawful permanent resident. When he was unable to also produce a green card, he was not hired. The lawsuit described that as discrimination.

I had three friends call me in the past couple of days looking to see if I had any work at all they could do, even one day. I have very little work to do so I have to do it myself. All three of them have already lost their homes and now are faced with not being able to pay there rent, and the possibility of not having a roof over their families heads. Yesterday when I went to my jobsite there were five illegals(i asked them) working on this jobsite all with their pickups with the new tires and snazzy spinning rims like they didnt have a care in the world. They will never know how lucky they are that self control gets the better of me these days. It just isnt right and it makes me want to hurt them, real bad.

This has been a problem for a long time in the begining when we asstablished this great country we said give us all you got, but there was a large differance the imagrants came in they were made legal citicens and they were willing to sacrifice to make this country great and they did, now they sneak in in the middle of the night and there are low lifes so called citicens of this country that will snatch thelm up because they will work basically for food dirt cheap labor they do not expect to get twenty dallars an hour plus benefits can you blame the low lifes well that is up to you getting the job done is getting the job done if we could work for the wages they do and still have a descent life i am shure MOST of us would,But the prices we pay to live would allso have to be adjusted accordingly and that CEO aint gonna let that happen because then you would be taking away his hundred foot yacht who do we blame or do we as american citicens do something about it i say WE NEED TO TAKE THIS COUNTRY BACK CLOSE THE BORDERS GIVE ALL THE COMPANIES THAT HAVE MOVED TO FORIEN COUNTRYS THIRTY DAYS TO MOVE BACK TO THIS SIDE IF THEY DO NOT OH WELL YOUR ARE STUCK THERE CUT OFF THERE PRODUCT FROM COMING INTO THIS COUNTRY AND WE BUILD OURSELVS LIKE WE DID.When we did it all in this country we were strong we started bying it all from China and other countrys we have steadily gone down hill ever since

I just hired over a dozen Illegal workers for a 3+ month contracting Job.

Here is why:

1) They work about 100X harder than any legal worker. ANY.

2) every one of them is skilled in a myriad of trades- not just one like the average American worker.

3) I can, Deal with it babies.

3:26

I doubt we will ever get "caught" since this practice is widely accepted, almost institutional on the shore.

maybe if you gringo's (as all contractors have taken to calling legal American workers) weren't so pathetically lazy I wouldn't have to hire day laborers.

Tell you what 3:26- I'll even hire an extra one tomorrow just for you!! haha

bunch of babies.

really? had a great day working with 14 hard working illegal immigrants. I made a ton of money on the job and paid every worker over $100/hr cash for their time. everyone seemed to leave really happy- no at all "slave labor"
