Superintendent’s Open Door Session
Board of Education Office

The first Superintendent’s Open Door Session of the 2010-11 school year will take place Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 4-6 p.m., in the Administrative Conference Room at the Board of Education Office. The Open Door Sessions are opportunities to meet one-on-one with Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen to discuss any issue, idea or concern. No appointments are made: Anyone interested in meeting with the superintendent should come to the Board office that day and sign in. Other Superintendent Open Door Sessions for this year are scheduled for: Oct. 27, Nov. 17, Dec. 15, Jan. 19, Feb. 23, March 23, April 27 and May 25. 410-677-4495

KaBOOM! Playday 2010
City of Salisbury, various locations

The KaBOOM! National Campaign for Play is a strategy to raise the issue of play to one of National importance. On Sept. 22, the City of Salisbury will host the second annual KaBOOM! Playday 2010 on the grounds of the Mid-Shore Family YMCA (715 South Schumaker Drive.) The Day will start from 11-1:30 with a walk at the Riverwalk near Baptist St. Pavilion Downtown Salisbury sponsored by Wellness Information Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition (WINPAC). Additional events, including games, face painting by members from Neighborhood Services & Code Compliance (NSCC) and a moon bounce will begin at Mid-Shore Family YMCA from 4-6 p.m. PlayDay 2010 will be recognized at sites from Wicomico Parks and Recreation after school programs, in addition to programs at RSVP & MAC Inc. Area on Aging.

STEM Saturday
Salisbury Middle School

The first STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Saturday of the 2010-11 school year will be held at Salisbury Middle School from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Oct. 9, with students in grades 4-5 exploring the stars and the universe in “It’s a Starry, Starry Night” and middle schoolers building a bridge for competition in “Bridge Design and Fabrication.” The elementary offerings are new to the STEM Saturdays schedule this year. Anyone interested in attending a STEM Saturday event must pre-register, and early registration is recommended as the courses fill up early.
