They actually start working a little in election year.

Actually, if you pay attention, they're mostly just reporting the warrants they've been serving. That's about all they do.
Bobby Jones doesn't think they should have to do much more than that, and they generally don't.
You'll also note (if you watch) that Chief Deputy Howard is the one who is out doing the public stuff, and generally running the show.
That's because Bobby doesn't stay sober long enough to do much, doesn't stay at work more than a few hours a day, and he is 'grooming' Howard to take over.
That's how it works here in Somerset. The deal is already done long before any ballots are ever printed.

Thank you 11:44, I was going to say the same thing about the arrests. Nothing against the deputies but they are only one step above the Sussex Co. Deputies. and they have no police powers. WHY, I have not a clue.

If you have a problem with the Somerset Co. Deputies why don't you go down and talk to them about it. I'm sure they would love to show you how much arrest powers they have. They are a great group of guys who give a 110% every day. They give you stats and you say it's because it's election time. They don't and you say they don't do anything. You know serving warrants is also a big part of the Sheriff's job. They can't win. As far as the Sheriff goes, he's there just about every day. He has time off to you know. They do a wonderful job down there. Cut them a break!!!!

Do these people who actually think they know what goes on in the Department, even have a clue? Anyone who thinks these Deputies dont work, should try spending a week with them. Guarantee these idiots wouldnt be able to keep up. They're just outsiders who form an opinion, without any merit. Do they see the Deputies reporting for Courtroom security, traveling for extraditions, serving summons', serving arrest warrants, etc? Probably not. They just enjoy sitting on their behinds and trash talking. And if you are shallow minded enough to think they dont have arresting powers, then please, by all means go up to Sam Barnes Road and violate the law in some form - I'm sure they'll be glad to show your first hand just how much arresting powers they have!

Amen 1:05. We can certainly see this is a case of "danged if you do, and danged if you dont". Anything reported, or not reported, is obviously going to be twised to suit the writers personal opinion. And if these people think the Deputies dont work, and they have it so easy, then why arent they knocking down the doors asking for an application...they seem to be such experts on law enforcement and how to run an agency!
