Lakewood Starter Trevor May Fans 10
Salisbury, Md. – Lakewood plated five runs in both the second and fifth innings to drop the Shorebirds 10-0 in game two at FirstEnergy Park on Friday night. Right-hander Trevor May continued his dominance over Delmarva, striking out 10 batters in seven shutout innings. The Shorebirds managed just five hits.
After a scoreless first inning, Lakewood sprinted to a 5-0 lead in the second. Stephen Batts and Jeremy Barnes served as catalysts with a double and single respectively to start the inning. Then, Keoni Ruth hit an RBI single to plate Batts. Three batters later, Jiwan James tacked on a run with a single. With the bases loaded, Leandro Castro hit a line drive double to deep left field to score three runs and give the ‘Claws a 5-0 lead.
The BlueClaws expanded their lead to 10-0 in the fifth inning. James and Castro set the table with back-to-back singles. Then, Jonathan Singleton hit a triple to deep center to score both runners. Sebastian Valle followed with a single to center to score Singleton. Then, Stephen Batts hit a two-run homer to left-center field to give the ‘Claws a 10-0 lead.
Lakewood starter Trevor May earned the win in seven shutout innings. He allowed just three hits. May struck out 10 batters and walked just two.
Shorebirds starter Kenny Moreland was pinned with the loss in five innings. He allowed 11 hits and ten runs.
The Shorebirds and BlueClaws play game three of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Shorebirds left-hander Nick Haughian squares off against BlueClaws right-hander Josh Zeid.
