GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY TO SPEND SUNDAY AT COMMUNITY EVENTS IN CAMBRIDGE

Governor O’Malley to attend church service at St. Luke’s, join dedication of Horn Point Oyster Setting facility, and attend Habitat for Humanity groundbreaking with Mayor Jackson-Stanley

ANNAPOLIS, MD
– Governor Martin O’Malley will spend Sunday in Cambridge, MD where he will attend a series of community events.

Governor O’Malley will first join community members and Mayor Victoria Jackson-Stanley for church service at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.

Later, Governor O’Malley will join Dr. Brit Kirwan, University System of Maryland Chancellor; Dr. Don Boesch, President of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, and others for the dedication of a new $11 million Oyster Setting Facility at the Horn Point Laboratory in Cambridge on the banks of the Choptank River. Once fully operational, the cultivation facility will be able to produce 2 billion oyster spat annually for planting into the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries—more than double the current amount of 750 million spat annually.

Finally, the Governor will join the Mayor Jackson-Stanley for the groundbreaking of a Habitat for Humanity project along the Pine Street Corridor of Cambridge.

Can't stand MOM, but I'm glad he is continuing to fund the oyster spat facility. (as did Ehrlich)
We must have Horns Point fully operational. Then put the watermen to work creating a viable aquaculture industry, not put and take, and not just take all you want, kill the last duck and eat the last egg. If the last of the watermen don't want to be in the business of restoration (they need to be paid) Then we will never get back to having a viable

sustainable

oyster harvest operation that can actually provide jobs.
