NRA Opposes Kagan

The National Rifle Association says today it's opposing Elena Kagan's nomination for the Supreme Court and will score her vote, which could further discourage Republicans from voting for her.

"This vote matters and will be a part of future candidate evaluations," the NRA says.

Excerpts from an NRA statement follow:

In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, she refused to declare support for the Second Amendment, saying only that the matter was "settled law."

This was eerily similar to the scripted testimony of Justice Sonia Sotomayor last year, prior to her confirmation to the Court. When pressed on the Second Amendment then, Sotomayor also referred to the issue as "settled law."

But in the recently decided case of McDonald v. City of Chicago, Sotomayor ignored the "settled law" of the Heller decision and signed a dissenting opinion that declared, "I can find nothing in the Second Amendment's text, history, or underlying rationale that could warrant characterizing it as 'fundamental' insofar as it seeks to protect the keeping and bearing of arms for private self-defense purposes."

It has become obvious that "settled law" is the scripted code of an anti-gun nominee's confirmation effort. The NRA is not fooled. No member of the U.S. Senate should be either.

Why did four Supreme Court Justices argue AGAINST the Constitution anyways? And Elena Kagan is a radical liberal liar. She makes my skin crawl

When will the Democrats wake up and forget "gun control." We don't want it, and it doesnt work. 50 shootings in one Chicago weekend--50 for Godsake--WITH a handgun ban in place. And the mayor, reacting to the Supreme Court's correct ruling, does what--he vows to come up with NEW gun control BS--EVEN THOUGH HIS CITY PROVES IT DOES NOT WORK. I am a democrat, but this is the one issue that they lose me on bigtime. They need to wake up, look at the dangerous reality that surrounds us, and understand that we will never give up our guns.

6:24 I agree which is why I'm an independent. Dems pushed education funding into a "WAR" bill. And they would rather borrow more money than used what has been allocated in TARP to pay for additional spending. Rep. are just as backwards. Where are the common sense leaders?

Sotomayer is a complete fool tyhat beleives the Stalin dogma ---- say it enough and people will accept it as the truth. Does she not know what the Bill of Rights was written for??? TO PROTECT THE FREEDOMS OF THE PEOPLE FROM THE WHIMS AND OPPRESSION OF THE GOVERNMENT!!! There was no concern for "self -defense"...that right was assumed and taken for granted...the right of the people to keep and bear arms was given so they could resist GOVERNMENTAL oppression....ANY reading of Jefferson, Madison, Adams, etc will clearly show that...And SHE is a Supreme Court Justice???? And don't forget that just about everyone that lived outside the city limits had a rifle in the house...And she has just exposed herself as an unmitigated liar who said whatever she needed to say to get her position...Kagan will do the same...Buy guns and ammo as fast as you can afford to....
