Michael Vick In Snow Hill

Joe,

I just bought a house and was packing up my kitchen dishes with newspaper (crabs n moving, that’s the only need for it) and somewhat enjoyed seeing little “snippets” of news as I was packing. I don’t get to see/read much news other than your site, which keeps me informed. Anyway, apparently Michael Vick was a guest speaker at some of the public schools in Snow Hill, didn't read if it was elementary, middle, high school, etc. It floored me! Sure, he “served his time” but I can’t really think of too many that have respect for Vick, especially considering his recent limelight of allegedly being part of a shooting at a nightclub in Guadalajara for his birthday…the person who got shot was a co defendant in his dog fighting case that he had an earlier confrontation with in the restaurant. Ironic huh? Idk, I just can’t imagine what was going through Worcester Co Board of Ed’s minds when inviting him in to talk to children a/b being a good person. Can someone elaborate? I feel like no one knew this happened. But then again, it could be that I missed it altogether.

Seems crazy,

Sarah

Editors Notes: Sarah, if you go back to the home page and type in Michael Vick in the search bar in the top left corner of the Blog, it will take you to the article we provided about this quite a few days ago.

Sarah,
I was happy to take my kids to school to meet Vick. And for not knowing what is going on in your back yard you sure are up to date on what Vick is doing now. You may want to unpack and re-read the article ... don't think he was in Mexico celebrating his birthday. The same way that you are not actually in Japan when you eat at the Tokyo steakhouse.

Vick did serve his time and paid for his crime. You can't keep harping on the man when he was in jail and nearly was bankrupt from it. He's also taking it one step further by talking to kids and telling them to make smarter choice. My god, is this what it's coming to? We're going to rag on the man because he made a mistake and he's talking to others to not make the same mistakes he did? Come on. At least he is attempting to better himself. How many other players in the NFL have charges against them and weren't even suspended or thrown in jail?

S ar rah, Please get on with your life!
In my opinion, as a former teacher and summer law enforcer, Vick is right in cautioning kids with regards to making the right decisions.

I agree with Sarah.
I would NEVER let me kids go listen to this guy. There are too many decent people out here to use someone like Vick as a "role model." It disgusts me to see how naive people are. Sure, I believe in change and forgivenss..... that's not the deal here. Allowing him more fame for his wrong doings is wrong. Plain ol' wrong.
Wake up! Don't you care about your children???? Or is it ok for them to be like the screw ups we allow the media to push in their face?? What kind of person do you REALLY desire your child to be like???
It's one thing if it's you, as an adult, but another when you push it on your impressionable and naive child. Sick!

I don't know, I somewhat agree b/c he's just "going through the motions" going around to schools and talking to children a/b his past decisions and how it affected him...I think that could have all been speculation until the recent happenings at the Guadalajara Restaurant they were at but I guess the truth will eventually come out (or get covered up). I think that if Vick didn't have a spot in the NFL waiting for him when he got out, he would NOT be talking to children and "going through the motions".

I was not completely certain how I felt about Michael Vick until very recently. I read an article for which I have attached a link. He may have served time, but after reading this article, I don't think it was enough.

Annon 9:17 In no way did Vick mention anything about being a
"role model" if anything he was completely the opposite and beat his self up.

Anon 9:43, "annon 9:17" is actually Lisa. And what Lisa was saying is so correct, there are so many other reputable figures out there that our children should be listening to.

I would let my kids listen to Michael Vick long before I would let them listen to our current president, vice president, speaker of the house, governor, state speaker of the house, and many others.

The Bible teaches us to leave the judgement and punishment up to God. We are to help each other, thru encouragement to overcome the things we do wrong. We are all sinners, and in God's eyes no sin is greater than any other.

Therefore, Mr. Vick did wrong. He served his sentenence and is now trying to teach others not to do what he did. How many of us try to do the same? How many of us will tell others about the wrongs we have done in the hopes that the children will listen and not do the same?

What Michael Vick did was terrible. Persecuting him for the rest of his life is just as bad. Give people the benefit of the doubt. If this was your child, you would give him a million chances.

Our president is doing more harm to our country, to our people than Vick did to those animals. If you feel the need to get angry, get angry at our country's supposed leaders and help to throw them out of office.

By the way, the shooting at Michael Vick's birthday happened in VA. Beach. He had already left the party when it happened and had nothing to do with it according to police reports.

No doubt the president is worse...but we're talking a/b Michael Vick and you just brought religion and politics into it. If Obama went to Snow Hill, then we'd be talking a/b that. Do you think that Michael Vick would be doing this, as much money as he lost, if he didn't have a spot in the NFL when he got out? Or, do you think he'd be fighting dogs or "thugging it out" somewhere as long as he didn't have any handouts waiting for him? Nevermind, you aren't going to "judge" him. How a/b offer your opinion on the matter vs judge?

Shooting happened at the Guadalajara Restaraunt in VA Beach.

...one more thing mardela, I'm not judging Michael Vick necessarily, I'm offering my opinion on what I think is poor judgement on Worcester Co Board of Ed's decision on allowing him in to speak to our children...and that goes to the rest of the schools throughout the nation. I don't know that I'd agree with Sarah in whole if Vick didn't get caught up in his most recent "alleged" mishap. It will get covered up and he'll get suspended which doesn't really matter b/c he doesn't start anyway. Rehabilitated my a%#.

I cannot believe people are still defending Michael Vick.People who torture animals are PSYCHOPATHS.This is a well documented fact both in criminal justice and the psychiatric field. What does it take to get that thru some of your heads? You don't stop being a psychopath just because you do some jail time or pay fines, its just not that simple. In his mind,he did nothing wrong because he has no empathy. Its not like he shot someone over a girl or card game,he systematically tortured and abused dogs for monetary gain and probably got a big power-rush out of it too.People like him are just above child molesters on the food chain.

So all of you who took your kid(s) to hear Michael Vick, while thinking he was a reformed man and was no longer involved in illegal activites... How do you now tell your kids, "oh, um, well we "thought" he had turned his life around".
We "thought" we were taking you so you could listen to what he has to say and look up to someone like him".
How do you now say to your kid(s), "that is not the type of person we want you looking up to"?
I posted when Joe ran the first article and asked why in the world some of you want your children looking "up" to criminals.
This is part of what is wrong with our kids nowadays!
Give them POSTITIVE role models, not CRIMINALS! My God!

11:14, Mardela, you are an idiot. Michael Vick is a suspect in the shooting. Preferring to let him speak to your kids rather than let them hear our president, vice president, etc, just shows your ignorance. How patriotic. Only a president you vote for should be respected and everyone must read YOUR bible, right? I am so tired of so-called Christians who look the other way while Bible-thumping Republican hypocrits screw and steal their way silly because they mention "God" or "family values" or the "right to life" once in a while. The Universe is laughing. I am not.
