Failures of service and Failures of Leadership are unacceptable
Bob Ehrlich today issued the following statement regarding the escalating implosion of service on the MARC commuter lines.
“One week after Martin O’Malley’s publicity ride on the MARC system and his faux apology to its riders, Maryland citizens see no improvement—they continue to endure unacceptable failures of service. Their nightmare enforces what every Marylander other than Martin O’Malley knows: Photo-ops don’t solve problems—leaders do.
“Commuters deserve better than late trains, overshot stations, and hours-long ordeals stuck on sweltering trains without water, information, or hope. While I am heartened that Governor O’Malley’s transportation secretary heeded my call to attend today’s MARC Rider Council meeting, it comes four years too late.
“I make this promise to every Marylander who depends on MARC and rightfully expects quality service: State Government’s culture of indifference toward you and your quality of life will end if I am elected Governor in November.” --Bob Ehrlich
(Background: Ehrlich’s statement follows several incidents of unsatisfactory service . Just Monday night a MARC train from Washington to Baltimore failed to make its scheduled stop in Odenton; passengers were delayed almost an hour. Even more serious were two incidents of trains stalling on their tracks and stranding passengers in broiling heat without air conditioning or water. In one of these incidents 900 people spent two hours in stifling confinement; a day later another train was stopped for 45 minutes.)
