Open Union Negotiations at the WCBOE

The Wicomico County Board of Education (WCBOE) doesn’t have a great record of inspiring taxpayer confidence when it comes to spending.  Between doing out benefits like it’s somebody else’s money (because it IS somebody else’s, IT’S OURS) to junkets and expense account lunches, Wicomico taxpayers just aren’t sold that “the children” really come first.  There is one step the WCBOE could take that might help – open union negotiations to the public.

WAIT!  That’s confidential.  Isn’t it?

Evidently not.  The Calvert County BOE has opened up their negotiations to the public this year.  Evidently the board and the unions have to agree and waive confidentiality.  If the WCBOE and their four “bargaining units” (educrat for “unions”) don’t have anything to hide, why can’t we sit in on the meetings?

What about it?  A little fresh air might inspire a little confidence.

I would rather see charter schools around here .

FYI...I heard that Unit II, ie administrators, have waived negotiations this year. If true, this is a class act on their part. Why go to the table if there is no money. I applaud them.

Seems like a good idea to me.
I doubt anything that nefarious goes on.

Opening up the negotiations would reveal how the union will garantee votes if things go right for them.
PUBLIC EMPLOYEES OF ANY KIND SHOULD BE PROHIBITED FROM BEING IN ANY UNION, PERIOD!

How does a union guarantee votes? and for whom? It's an appointed school board. ?
I'm a teacher in the association and I disagree with about 75% of the "non-educational" agenda and platform of the nea. I vote for whoever I want to- as do MOST of my colleagues.

Negotiations for the classified employees are a joke. Administration has an agenda and most employees are afraid of retaliation. They try to keep support staff "stupid" so they won't question whatever is said to them. But classified workers are much smarter than administrators think. They know a pig when they see one.

First you have to have a teachers union on the shore. Than you can open the negotiations. At present they are an association that comes to the table and listens to what they get. Feel free to help them get a union. That way your whining would amount to some thing. Untill than ST*U.

As one who has participated in negotiations dealing with the States Collective Bargaining process, I do not see any violation of any confidentiality in these meetings. The problem is the Unions / Associations that represent their members do not want the Public aware of waste and job protection. They know they Public would go ballistic.
