Daily Times Scam?

"Hi Joe,

I was wondering if any of your readers have had a young kid coming to their door selling the Daily Times? there was a young girl, really thin with long blonde hair. She was riding in a large white SUV and said the college kids get some sort of incentive for selling trials of the Daily Times. Do you know anything about this? I can't help but be leery since those "college kids" a while back were scamming everyone trying to sell magazines to help out their cause. Thanks for any info you can give.

Sincerely,
Christy"

i had a young man come by a few weeks ago. he was very persistant but I blew him off. He used the same bs about putting him thru college. I don't trust anyone who comes door to door.

I had a couple of them too, I said who the hell wants more to recycle? I'm rude but my son last week was kind to one, and took the paper. I was scammed by a guy with the magazine thing so I have no patience with anyone coming to my door.

I can't stop laughing about this. The Daily Times is now so desperate for sales they're using, (allegedly) college students to claim a portion of their sales helps them purchase books. In other words, feel lsorry for the students and buy a daily times.

Quite frankly Folks, that's just about as desperate as I have ever seen a company stoop.

Greg Bassett has whored that company out to a point they'll do just about anything for a sale. Will he claim he's one of Jerry's Kids next?

The SFD will be coming around next saying if you don't make a donation they'll let your house burn to the ground.

They came to my house last year. I told the guy I had no desire to subscribe to the local newspaper. He left me a complimentary one anyways. I picked it up after he left and it was 3 weeks old!

Joe, I have to agree w/you! They are desperate and this is dispicable! It is not save for anyone to be going door to door in this day and time, especially in Salisbury! Maybe they could have them telemarket for safety. Sounds like they are at an all time low! Pathetic!

Could it be the kids scamming on their own, without DT knowledge? Joe don't you answer that because you will automatically find the DT guilty and NOT do a correction if you are found to be wrong. A student(?) handing out three week old papers sounds more like the kids are the scammers.

i had this happen to me last year. I told them i might be interested so the student had me fill out a paper and that the daily times would call me in 3 days and confirm if i wanted to subscribe. well all of a sudden i started to receive papers about every other day and then one day i recieved a bill in the mail.So i called them up to tell them what i had been told by the student and the daily times told me that someone in my house had confirmed it. Well i decided to ask the other members in the house and they told that was not true, so i checked the caller id and they had in fact called to confirm but they must have thought when they got the answering machine it meant i wanted there paper. So in other words when in comes down to the daily times wanting your business your answering becomes a family member..
