Incident: Possession of Crack Cocaine
Date of Incident: 8 January 2010
Location: 500 block of Hearn lane, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Carter J. Derickson, 44, Salisbury, MD



Narrative: On 8 January 2010 at 3:32 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office went to a residence in the 500 block of Hearn Lane for the purpose of locating Carter Derickson, wanted on a Circuit Court Indictment for the Distribution of CDS. Upon arriving at the residence, the deputy contacted Derickson and advised him he was under arrest. Derickson initially seemed compliant, but attempted to walk away from the deputy under the pretenses of getting a jacket. The deputy, suspicious of Derickson’s attempts to walk away, secured him and subsequently discovered two metal smoking devices in Derickson’s pocket that still contained the remnants of burnt crack cocaine.



Derickson was placed under arrest for the Indictment along with the two Crack Cocaine pipes and transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance on the Crack Cocaine charges, the Commissioner detained Derickson in the Detention Center in lieu of $7,500.00 bond.
Derickson was also detained on a $75,000.00 pre-set bond on the Circuit Court Indictment.

Incident: Attempted Murder
Date of Incident: 9 January 2010
Location: 11500 block of San Domingo Road, Mardela Springs, MD
Suspect: Bruce E. Kenney, 64, Mardela Springs, MD



Narrative: On 9 January 2010 at 3:36 PM, deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office investigated an altercation that occurred in the 11500 block of San Domingo Road in Mardela Springs. Upon arrival the deputies located a female juvenile bleeding from the facial area. The victim and a witness both informed investigating deputies that the juvenile and an adult male, Bruce Kenney, were involved in a verbal altercation when Kenney grabbed a hammer and struck the juvenile in the forehead.



Deputies then managed to locate Kenney sitting in a vehicle elsewhere on the property and took him into custody. Kenney had the hammer used in the attack with him in the vehicle.
The arresting deputy transported Kenney to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Because of the severity of the hammer blow and its potential to have caused a fatal injury, the deputy charged Kenney with attempted murder. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Kenney in the Detention Center in lieu of $250,000.00 bond.

Incident: Assault

Location: 2300 block of N. Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury, MD
Suspect: 1. Female Juvenile, 14, Salisbury, MD
2. Female Juvenile, 13, Salisbury, MD



Narrative: On 9 January 2010 at 9:09 PM, a deputy observed two female juvenile involved in a mutual physical altercation with each other in the lobby of the Regal Cinemas at the Centre at Salisbury. Based on their behavior, the pair caused a disruption of the normal flow of patrons in the establishment. The deputy managed to separate the pair and placed both under arrest for assault and disorderly conduct.



The deputy charged both juveniles on a juvenile referral and released both to parents pending formal action being taken by the Department of Juvenile Services.

Date of Incident: 9 January 2010
Location: 700 block of East Road, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Joseph Norman, 37, Vienna, MD



Narrative: On 9 January 2010 at 11:30 PM, deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported fight occurring in the roadway of the 700 block of East Road in Salisbury, MD. Upon arrival, the deputies located a victim lying in the roadway while many other subjects milled about the area. While the deputies tended to the subject on the ground, Joseph Henry exited an adjacent residence and began trying to rally others to join him in what appeared at an attempt to seek retribution on some unknown assailants. Henry, who was loud and boisterous, refused requests by law enforcement to cease his disruptive behavior. When a deputy attempted to place Henry under arrest, he attempted to run away, but was subsequently detained by deputies on the scene. Based on Henry’s actions, he made it difficult for the deputies to investigate what had happened or tend to the subject on the ground. The deputies subsequently discovered that the subject on the ground was not injured as a result on any physical alteration.



Norman was transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was charged and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner released Norman on Personal Recognizance.

Date of Incident: 10 January 2010
Location: 400 Block of Patrick Avenue, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Ricardo Abitua, 36, Salisbury, MD



Narrative: On 10 January 2010 at 10:47 AM deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported altercation that occurred inside a residence in the 400 block of Patrick Avenue in Salisbury, MD. Upon arrival, a deputy met with a female victim who stated she was involved in an argument with Ricardo Abitua over money for cigarettes when Abitua attempted to choke her. The deputy observed signs of physical injury on the female victim that corroborated her account.



The deputy placed Abitua under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner released Abitua on Personal Recognizance.
