It Apears The Animal Laws Do Cover Weather Conditions

Folks, we have been digging over the past 24 hours into the new Animal Laws in Wicomico County and while the Director of the Humane Society stated they cannot do anything because there's not a specific law allowing them to enforce weather conditions, (definitions) they were wrong.

133-17 paragraph b4 refers to "unsafe weather conditions" clearly states they can in fact take the animal and follow ALL of the normal instructions, such as, citation, fines, housing and even euthanasia.

While it may be difficult to follow, we have learned through Ed Baker they can and should be enforced. It's important to also know that the bill requests individuals to actually call Animal Control and or the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office. To my knowledge there's no mention of calling the Humane Society.

We thank you for your patience on this matter as several people have been involved in digging into the heart of this issue and we hope everyone is satisfied.

Animal Control falls under the responsibilities of the Humane Society. That's why the Humane Society get money from the County.

Did Linda Lugo not know who to read the legislative law...you know, the one she helped create?

Thanks to Ed Baker for getting this
corrected. And thanks to the county
council for passing this.

And they should,
friends of our adopted a 4 lb Shih tzu today from the shelter in Cambridge. The dog was rescued last week from it's former owners after they were leaving it outside in this cold snap on a 4 ft leash tied to the front door knob for 2 1/2 days...
Pitiful
They took their boys to meet the newest family member yesterday. Said she is so gentle and loving.
I believe charges are going to be pressed against the former owners
They took their bo

Justin Case, "Animal Control" is within the Salisbury Police Department, not the County.

I hope Linda Lugo reads this

Glad to see this is corrected, not that everyone is satisfied either, because you can't please everyone.

It's about the animals & their rights and knowing this all came to the front for the animals benefit, as was intended when the County passed the new Laws---- and your getting the Correct Information Out There So the Public will know what they can legally do to help an animal-----not some fabricated story about "definitions & not the law!"
I though I'd heard it all-----but after that remark----decided I hadn't!

Ms Lugo is a smart woman, I know she helped pass these Laws. Who in Gods name made a statement like that at the Humane Society?----for sure not someone who works there & is suppose to know the Laws they are to abide by in the County!!!!!

So, who is called, both Animal Control by contacting the Sherrif and the Humane Society also. They should be sited for keeping a dog outside that isn't aclimated to the cold temps. No problem with finding out which are---the Vets know the answer!!!

There is a dog on the corner of Fire Tower and Nanticoke, chained up outside. Mind you it has an igloo dog house, and a bucket of water, but that poor thing is out there in the rain, snow and every other weather conditions throughout the year. I have called several times to see if there was anything anyone can do, and I get shot down every time. He's been out there a few years now. So if I call now, something will be done about it?

If Salisbury's Animal Control is under the auspices of the Salisbury Police Department, why call the county sheriff department?

6:51 County Law states that an animal can't be kept outside in freezing weather UNLESS it is an animal which is aclimated to the cold, St Bernards, Sleigh Dogs -----& perhaps call a Vet so he can give you any more that might be.
Don't let the Humane Society sluff you off by saying they Can't----Cause it is the Law---It that doesn't work call the Sherrif Dept & tell them what's been done by you & where you're getting with the complaint----Get that animal in out of this mess!! They'd be better off dead then to have to live in these conditions we've had of late when they aren't intended to stay out like some are!

I would like the owner of any dog that is kept on a chain outside in this cold weather to go get the warmest coat they have, hat and gloves and be left outside all night. Let's see how long they last.

Yet another government agency/dept. that doesn't want to do their job.
Whoever it was that made the statement to you Joe should be FIRED!
I'm so sick of all these government jobs being taken by people who have no desire to do their job, they're just there for the paycheck, the pension and the other benefits that go along with the job.
Let somebody have the job that will DO the job!

The new dog laws that were written clearly state what type of dog house, size and also that it has to face in a direction where the wind cannot blow into the dog house or have some type of protection. The house must be big enough for the dog to stand UPRIGHT and turn around. I think the law also states about proper CLEAN bedding as well. Also, FYI NO dog can be tied outside on a chain-type collar. It can be on a chain lead, but not the collar and the lead has to be a certain length. SO, if you see one, call the Humane Society and see what they say about that one. The law should be on the Wicomico County website. I think that is where I found it last year.
