There is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.
We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force. The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny and their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone.
I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

well news flash. we all are judged. no mater our color. and the world is going to sh** because we have a dumb*** for a president. Soooo with that said looks like his dream is over. Yet we still get the day off. what the heck???
MLK was a Republican FYI.
I bet most people didn't know that M.L.K. was a republican that supported Nixon until he was arrested at a sit in and was bailed out by the Kennedy's and then switched parties .
M.L.K. strayed away from aligning himself with political parties jack@$$. Both parties simply claim his support when it is politically expedient. It was several republicans that voted against even honoring him with a holiday.
J.F.K. voted against the 1957 civil rights act. Sounds like the Kennedy's realized the civil rights movement was gaining popularity and bought themselves a vote.
I have a dream when the things that divide us will go away so we can celebrate the things we have in common. Then, we can "build" a new America that is built on fairness and true values for all human beings.
I used to believe in the American Dream. I dont anymore.

I have a dream -- that the FBI files on MLK are released, just like all other old government files that fall under the Freedom of Information Act.
But alas, it's only a dream. We will never get to see those files. It would be too political incorrect if we learned that MLK often worked with subversives who wanted to destroy this country. It would also be very political incorrect to learn of his immoral lifestyle.
BTW, I was 16 when he was killed. The next day I was beat up by a mob of blacks for one reason only -- because I was white. So much for "not judging by the color of your skin."

Both parties used to be very different. Democrats used to be more conservative in nature- but since the Christian right hijacked the republican party the dichotomy has changed drastically-
Bottom line is you cant look at party affiliation from MLKJ's era the same as you would today.
They are two very different times.
Look at what the man stood from and believed in- not which primary he would have voted in...

I have a dream: That every year we just view this day as another day simply because those (most not all) of his kind have no clue what he was about. The crime here in SBY and country wide seems to be "biased", I mean the majority of the crime is committed by blacks and MLK didn't want that did he? So how far have we come as a society in obtaining or achieving his "dream", I would have to say we are farther away from where we were back then..just my honest opinion. Oh BTW I worked a double today and loved it!

Im not sure what MLK's religion has to do with this conversation- 3:33's comment is about how the dichotomy of the two political parties has changed since MLK was alive and that making a direct comparison between them now a days isn't relative to how they were back in his day, thus making his affiliation irrelevant.
I am as conservative and religious as they come but 3:33 was absolutely on point with that.
