Text Message Donations For Haiti May Be Delayed Up To 3 Months

Its quick, easy and convenient to donate to relief efforts for Haiti earthquake victims by sending a text message, but not such a great idea if you want to be sure that your donations reach people and organizations in need before sometime in April.

Mobile carriers don't actually submit your donation to the charity until after you've paid your bill. Experts agree that the donations will take at least one billing cycle for pledges to reach their destination.

Even so, I'm sure those poor folks will still need help next month and the months after that. The text "Haiti" to 90999 is so simple that many people will take that step who might not otherwise have DONE ANYTHING to help. Don't discourage this avenue. But thanks for pointing out the reality of the delay in payment to them. This is going to be such a long term issue that we should get used to hearing about it. I just hope that we start to see some progress. When the US is involved the taxpayers need to see that we're making a difference. That's what makes it worthwhile to be there.

Bottom line is, the United States has proven we can and will help out of our own pockets and tax dollars are not necessary. Obama should never have given up $100,000,000.00 before the citizens had the chance to prove we could help out on our own.

Haiti will receive more money than their total income in two weeks than they would have made in years.

Joe, do you guys ever look at the full picture? Our tax dollars are funding the marines, sailors, and soldiers that have/will be going down there. These men and women have reestablished air transport, are working on fixing the ports, are bringing in emergency medical personnel, and providing security for relief workers. Do you honestly think this would be done without our tax dollars?

I know, lets just let the Red Cross air drop bundles of cash from our donations over Haiti. That will solve the problem.

Early this morning I was watching coverage on Haiti, both ATT and Verizon spokespersons said they are sending money to Haiti already because they know there are already donations being made, so they are sending it ahead of the actual payment being received. I feel horrible for the natives of Haiti and those who were there doing business to increase the quality of life for Haitians, but at the same time the US is donating millions, other countries are donating millions, Celebs are donating millions so the money is there IF it is used properly. To be frank in this day and age even $10 is a lot to my family so the statement made by Bush and Clinton stating "Just send your money" ticked me off. How about they just send their money instead of being in the spotlight to gain recognition!
