Salisbury Salvation Army Strikes It Rich With Kettle Donation
Last week brought some very unusual surprises to the Salisbury Salvation Army with donations in one Red Kettle.
Not that all of the donations aren't special, they are. However, last week in one bucket someone who didn't want to be recognized didn't just drop these extremely valuable Silver Dollars into the bucket, they also dropped the very first $50.00 Bill into that very same kettle.
One appraiser valued the one Silver Dollar from 1878 at $7,500.00!!!!!! The other older coin is still being evaluated but you can't deny this is a very special gift to a very special cause.
We're still in need of Bell Ringers. The WalMart Retail location still needs volunteers to help make this year the best ever. All they're asking you for is your time. We're asking other local businesses to please take a look at the schedules and see if you can't help fill in some of these open gaps.
Individuals are needed now more than ever. The Salvation Army is trying to keep this drive completely volunteers while so many Families are in more need now than ever before. Please consider taking a slot and help give back. Remember, you may be blessed with a job and a home while thousands of others are doing without. Thousands have lost their jobs and homes due to this harsh economy and your two hours ringing a bell can help feed these Families and put food on the table and presents under the Tree this Christmas.
To the individual who made this very generous donation, God Bless you and Thank You.

There truly is a Santa Clause.
so this means that the salavation army will be able to help more families???right??? or r they going to keep it to do whatever???
If they are putting it into the families then this means alot of people having a good christmas for their kids and maybe even helping people on their power and gas bills too..
Now thats Karma.
Its great to be generous but Uncle Sam is awfully generous with his deductions from my income. I would need a receipt...
Or, was the coin stolen, in which case may not help the SA at all if the person claims the coin.
It would be awesome if it really was a donation though!
NO WAY could I give up coins like that.
AWESOME contribution! It's nice to hear about good stories such as this one since we hear about a substantial amount of bad news these days.
In Chicago, there was someone who would drop a Kugerand in 5 or 6 kettles around town. These coins are very valuable, and would help the Salvation Army to help many people.
It would usually be reported on the news, but I don't remember hearing about it last year.
Some people like to donate things like this anominously. I think that it is pretty cool for people to do this, as it adds to the magic of the season.
If it is genuine, the 1799 dollar (in the 2nd & 3rd pictures) would be the valuable one. The other would be some sort of trial piece, not a regular issue United States coin.
I'm no expert, but I dont think either of them are real. I dont know what they are, but they do not look like US currency. Hope they are still worth something...
Those coins are conterfit. There is no mint mark on either on, they would have to be silver and if they were they would be tanished, not "gun black" around the ediges. Both edges would be the same and any coin you drop into a bucket, especially with the soft silver they used in thoses days, would scratch. And the detail is way too deep.
Fake Coins. Come on George even you should know that. These are coming in from over seas like crazy.
the first is a copy of a Morgan but the reverse side isnt even close to a Morgan no shield with eagle on a real one the banner with liberty on it is arched in the wrong direction just a few of the irregularities
