Salisbury Police Department Press Releases

On November 30, 2009 at approximately 5:50 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the East Side Deli on East Main Street for the report of an armed robbery with gunshots fired. Upon arrival the officers met with witnesses and a single victim of two (2) gunshots. The victim was identified as 56 year old Gregory David Knowles of Delmar, Maryland. Knowles was transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center by Salisbury Emergency Services and was in surgery at the time of this release. The witnesses advised the officers that a single suspect had entered the business and approached the victim with a handgun pointed at the victim. The suspect fired two (2) shots at the victim then took U.S. Currency from a cash register at the rear of the business. The suspect fled from the business on foot and was last observed traveling east along the front of the building. A K-9 track was attempted with a K-9 from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and yielded negative results. This investigation continues, and the suspect was described as:

Black male, approximately 5’10”, thin build, light complexion, wearing a black hoodie type sweatshirt with the hood up, black jeans, black tennis shoes and a black ski mask. The handgun was described as a black in color revolver type weapon.

On November 26, 2009 at approximately 7:15 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to a residence on the seven hundred (700) block of E. Church Street for the report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival the officers met with an adult female victim who advised that she had been involved in a domestic type argument with a suspect known to her. During the argument the suspect struck the victim in the head area and threatened the victim with a knife. The suspect also refused to let the victim leave the residence for a short period of time. The victim did not need medical attention.

On November 27, 2009 at approximately 2:11 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the WaWa Store on South Salisbury Boulevard for the report of a fight. Upon arrival the officers observed the below listed suspects acting in a disorderly manner. Suspect # 1 became combative and refused to leave the store, eventually fighting with officers as she was placed under arrest. Suspect # 2 was observed by officers breaking one of the glass windows of the store.

Resisting arrest
Failure to obey a lawful order
Disorderly conduct

ARRESTED #2: Relysee Richard Haywood, III, 23 years of age

CHARGES: Malicious destruction of property

On November 27, 2009 at approximately 2:45 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the area of Baker St. for the report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival the officers met with an adult male victim who advised that he had been robbed of his clothing and wallet by three (3) suspects at knife point. The victim advised that he was approached on Baker St. by the three suspects who produced a knife and took his property. The suspects then fled from the area on foot.

On the same date, at approximately 8:22 pm, the officers met again with the victim who was able to positively identify one of the suspects, listed below. The victim had been located at a local church and observed the suspect. The victim alerted an off duty Maryland State Trooper, who detained the suspect until the arrival of the Salisbury officers. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The investigation is continuing as to the second and third suspects.

On November 28, 2009 at approximately 4:08 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to a business on Calvert Street for a report of a burglary. Upon arrival the officers met with a witness who had observed the below listed suspect make entry into an unoccupied office through a window. The officers located the suspect inside of the unoccupied business.

ARRESTED: James Kevin Stansbury, 50 years of age

On November 28, 2009 at approximately 6:25 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police were on routine patrol in the area of Naylor Street and stopped a vehicle operated by the below listed suspect for traffic violations. As the vehicle was stopped, the suspect fled from the vehicle on foot. After a foot chase the suspect was caught and was found to have attempted to discard a baggie of suspected “crack”/cocaine, which was recovered by the officers.

On November 28, 2009 at approximately 10:51 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police were on routine patrol in the area of Parsons Road and observed a vehicle parked in a suspicious manner. Officers approached the vehicle and detected the scent of suspected marijuana emanating from the parked vehicle. The vehicle was occupied by below listed suspects # 1 and # 2. The vehicle was checked and a quantity of suspected “crack”/cocaine was located.
