Domino's Changing Pizza Recipe


Finally realizing its pizza is mediocre, Domino's has decided to take its recipe to the wood chipper and start over with an attempt at a new, better product.

From a press release:

““2010 will be our 50th year in the business, and we are kicking it off with the most aggressive promotion in the history of our company,” said Domino’s Chairman and CEO David A. Brandon. “This is the biggest product introduction we’ve done since…well, pizza.”

The primary changes include:

· Crust - A garlic seasoned crust with parsley baked to a golden brown.

· Sauce - Sweeter, bolder tomato sauce with a medley of herbs and a red pepper kick.

· Cheese - Shredded cheese made with 100% real mozzarella and flavored with just a hint of provolone.


The new recipe is rolling out over the chain's stores and will be everywhere by Dec. 27. To get people to sample its revamped wares, Domino's will be offering 2 medium 2-topping pizzas for $12.

If you try the new Domino's, let us know your reactions at tips@consumerist.com. Really, it's almost certain that the changes will be for the better because there's so much room for improvement. Whether or not Domino's will be able to hang with rival Papa John's is the real issue.

If this is true I hope I still like their pizza. Their pizza was never the best but I always liked it because it was good and consistent.

Try making one at home.
An extra large with sauce, cheese, pepperoni or sausage, fresh mushrooms, fresh onions and green peppers can run you about $4-5, with enough toppings left over to do it again for the same price (two extra large with 4 toppings for $10). And, if you buy yeast in a cake and keep the unused part in the freezer in a snap-lid container instead of those cute single use packets, each pizza's dose will cost about 15 cents instead of $1.29.

Well that's just great! We used to eat at Delmar Pizza many years ago, then they changed their sauce and I can't eat it (makes me ill).
I like Domino's sauce but now I see they're going to change theirs too.
Oh well, guess I won't be eating pizza out anymore.

10:46~I agree....homemade is the best but the homemade crust makes it and it is actually very easy to do. Mix:
Packet of yeast
1 tsp sugar
1 cup warm water
2.5 cups bread flour
2 Tblsp olive oil
1 tsp salt

Whip this up in the morning and warm the oven for five minutes and turn it off.

Stick the yeast mixture in the warmed oven and cover the bowl with a towel. It will be ready for you when you get home from work.

Add all the good stuff that you want on top and bake on 450 for 15 minutes. Tomatoes(in season) and black olives sliced on top of the cheese is best.

Love Papa John's, and much cheaper than Domino's, which is weak, acidy sauce. That touch of sweet in PJ's is yummmm!

Flavor's pizza (downtown) is the best, most authentic, pizza around! If you like garlic, their white pizza is the bomb.

I have always enjoyed Domino's pizza the way they have been.

I preferred them over PJ's. If this goes down, it looks like I'll be eating less pizza in the future :(

WE are in love with Laurel Pizzeria pizza and slamming wings!! We won't go anywhere else.
