Is Crime Really Being Reported In Salisbury Like Its Supposed To Be?

"When my warehouse was broken into 2 years ago and the SPD met 2 of my staff there at midnight while I was out of town...the PD called me from the scene to tell me that the garage door was not on the building and that all of my inventory and a bucket truck were gone."

"Months later my attorney got a copy of the SPD report on that incident and it starts out with "No visible sign of forced entry". WHAT!!!"

"The cops never did anything about it."

"When my best friend had his 1985 Chevy stolen from his apartment lot, they refused to file a report, saying that if the car is over 10 years old, it's not a police matter. WHAT!!!"

"It's real bad here. "

Ahh yes welcome to the shore, we lower the standard because we are so inept. Pathetic stuff.

Has anyone heard of any violent crimes committed outside of the Hampton Inn and Chef Fred's? Some pretty serious rumors floating around. Please substantiate.

Absolutely not...... never heard a thing reported about all the cars broken into on my street last month even though there were several and then the next day houses were. The police were interviewing us all but it never showed up on the news....... why do they want us to believe we're still in Mayberry?

Interesting comparison today, between Salisbury and Baltimore County. Yesterday, in Baltimore County, police shot and killed an armed, robbery suspect; a homeowner shot a attempted home invasion suspect, and Baltimore City police shot and killed a convicted murderer and armed robber.
Now, if Salisbury is more dangerous than Baltimore County, why doesn't the local police take action and have a strong presence as do those in the metro area?
More headlines like this may deter violent scum from preying on innocence people. I feel sorry for the homeowner who was forced to defend his property, and I applaud his actions.
Criminals need to know that citizens will rise up and defend themselves, and that a strong and swift police presence will prevail.
It's the violent scum that needs to fear society, not the other way around

Thats BS Joe, if a car is more than 10 years old its not a police matter. Come on now, thats pushing it a bit too far. I know SPD screws up but to go that far with a bs story lol.

Definitely not. My friend was robbed at gun point in Marley Manor apartments by 3 black guys. Never heard of it until he told me about it.

Yes, ask any LEO - plenty of crimes never make the light of day.

Who is putting a stop to the reporting????

To 10:18 Joe only put in what I sent him and the facts were given to me by a very respected Salisbury business man so I think the facts are correct. So blame me not Joe if you think otherwise

My girlfriend had her house broken into and they said "What do you want us to do about it?" then said "Are you going to handle this yourself?" This is how the Munchkin's handle things.

I'm glad to see this article, it confirms what my neighbors and I believe, that many of the calls for service are not reported, or are under reported by the SPD. We learned this when the SPD informed us that they had no prior reports on two separate incidents that were known to the neighbors as having been reported. At that point there is no further trust, future services calls are not made, and neighbors move!

Not just in Salisbury but apparently widespread throughout the county Pepsi machines are being stolen! That's right, stolen! Thieves are not just breaking into them anymore, they're taking the entire machine.
I know of 4 cases of this just from the other businesses we know who've notice ours is gone.
Nothing about that around either but I'm giving you the heads up on it Joe! Ours was handled by the Sheriff's Dept. and I know one more of the ones we know about were handled by the S/O also.
I think businesses who have these machines outside their business should be aware of this.

10:39 the realtors and landlords, of course. "Crime" is bad for (their) business.

I was mugged once, and never got a police case number. After a while I gave up because it didn't really do me any good to get one. I figured that the SPD wouldn't be actively looking for the three hoodrats anyway (confirmed when I saw them later, called the police, and nothing happened).

A neighbor's house was broken into, and the insurance company did not want to pay the claim because there was no case number to prove the burglary claim. It took a few weeks of unsuccessful requests for the homeowner to get a case number, and it looked like they reused some other reporting document because the case number was manually changed. Plus there was no attempt to collect any prints, etc. so without evidence nobody would ever get prosecuted.

I wouldn't be surprised if many of the "false alarm" reports you see in the paper were in fact legitimate police calls that get logged this way.

Reconciled1 why do you waste your time with that other site? They are some vindictive people. I will email you with some of their shenanigans.

NO...the SPD cannot get their reports correct. We had a person trespass on our property and was combative with the officer. The SPD officer completely got the events of how the incident unfolded WRONG, therefore causing an open window for the defense to question what really happened. So, the case is now being put on the stet docket, and nothing will be done to prevent this from happening again.

I don't see it as a waste of time.....I'm one of the few conservative voices there and I was invited to share my thoughts. Which I do openly.... I can handle the grief I get at times. I knew I was going to get it when I signed on. Just because we disagree politically and on faith issues at times doesn't mean we can't get along. We have had several good hearty debates without resorting to name calling. It's ok to agree to disagree at times because at the end of the day, we are all part of this big dysfunctional family called life......

I have given up looking at the daily logs on salisburypd.com, they are leaving a lot of what happens around town out of the logs, is this legal?

How accurate is the daily logs on wicomicosheriff.com?

If they took over helping salisbury PD would we get better reports of what is happening?

I believe half of what I hear and even less of what I read. But the reality is, the Salisbury Police Department will never be adequately funded because there aren't enough citizens living within the incorporated limits of Salisbury affluent enough to pony up the tax revenue to do it. Salisbury Police Department, in its present condition, will remain a reactive agency, never an effective proactive one. The discussion should be on the dissolution of the Salisbury Police Department and constituting of a county force.

Disagree that it's all a money problem. Poor leadership drives good people away and we're left with the inexperienced who are given poor direction.

ANON 10:58- WTF is wrong with you?
What power do you believe a realtor would have over anybody about reporting crime in SBY? That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read.

Our business has reported several break-ins and property damage over the past few years. The police response is always the same... they make a note of all my information as the reporting witness and then we never hear anything again. Most of the time the officers will say flat out "there's nothing we can do about it." They don't even try.

If the public really knew the amount of crime that happens here, you would be soooo mad and upset. I have always believed that you tell the "public" when you have a rash of burglaries, car break ins, ets, I have always been discouraged and told not to. The public doesn't need to know. The sheriff's office is the opposite. They will do a press release when they see that conduct.

The SPD was doing a real good job at listing all the student alcohol violations.... so why doubt them now?

I believe the SPD efforts are mis-guided.

To all you "born-here's": Do you still think SU and the students are the real problem?

Hey Reconciled1, ask why Chris and Chuck tried to threaten my employment twice, once for something I didn't do and once for posting on Julie's site. You think you can trust those two?

Is this the same man whose car was firebombed and his friend shot twice in the chest? Gary?

These complaints are pretty discouraging. Although as much as I'd wish I could say I'm surprised by this I'm really not. I've lived here for about 7 years now and I have no idea how ppl can stand it here. Is there anything here that is executed to any level of professionalism? It seems like everything is half-a$$ed in some way or another. When I was a crime victim in Salisbury I didnt have any problems getting a report but then again I moved here from a large midwestern city and had never been a victim so I had no frame of reference as to "how things work".

Whats really sad is I see this same level of half-a$$ed work ethic at my local workplace, which leads me to make the assumption that ppl around here dont give a sh!t.
