Single Car Crash Kills Driver And Injures Passenger


Location: U.S. 9, Seashore Hwy 2/10 mile east of Minos-Conoway Rd, CR 265 2 miles west of Lewes, DE Sussex County

Date of Occurrence: Thursday November 12, 2009 at 8 p.m.

Victim: Shane C. Zinser, 19, Rehoboth, DE

Delaware State Police are investigating a single car crash that left one dead and his injured his bother.

The crash occurred at 8 p.m. this evening when Zinser was operating 1998 Lincoln Continental eastbound on U.S. 9. For unknown reasons the Lincoln crossed into the oncoming lane and exited the north edge of the roadway. The car struck a fence causing a section of the fence to break through the front windshield of the car striking Zinser in the head. The car swerved back on U.S. 9 and drove off the south of the roadway before coming to rest.

Zinser was pronounced dead at the scene. His brother, Evan Zinser, 19, also of Rehoboth, was taken to Beebe Hospital in Lewes. He was listed in serious condition.

Shane was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash; however his brother Evan was wearing one. It is unknown if alcohol or speed played a role in the crash.

The investigation is still ongoing.
