Great Idea

Proposed Amendment 28 to the US Constitution!

Congress shall make no law that applies to any citizen of the United States that does not apply equally to all US Senators and Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to any US Senator or Representative that does not apply equally to all citizens of the United States . All existing laws and regulations that do not meet these criteria shall be declared null and void!

What current laws don't apply to U.S. Senators or Representatives?

Marc,
The congress routinely exempts themselves from laws that they pass on to average Americans, such as:
Equal opportunity employment
Americans with dissabilities act
Social Security requirements
Proposed Health care reform.
Etc, Etc!

Marc said...

Not really. When the GOP took over Congress in 1995 they brought it under many of the laws it was exempt from previously. Congressmen pay into Social Security. Health care "reform" doesn't exempt them any more than it exempts others who have employer-based insurance today.

This is silly. The elected officials which are hand picked and chosen by the elite of the human race are serving the public. After some time in Washington DC, these people become qualitatively different from the rest of us. Their incredible sacrifice and self-less efforts to take care of us should be honored and rewarded. They deserve to live lifestyles very similar to the elites (their bosses) and should not be burdened with the same obligations we face as useless eaters.
These are extremely important people and their efforts to take care of us should never be overlooked or underestimated. We owe them our money, labor, bodily fluids, and our loyalty. Without them we would live totally different lives.
I think we should all be forced to pledge allegiance to the flag and to the people who make up Washington DC every single day.
We should encourage our youth to join one of the military branches and give their lives if necessary to make sure this American scheme never changes. We should ridicule and persecute anyone among us who even considers the possiblity of questioning the motives and rationale for their decisions. These great Americans are special and deserve our complete attention and loyalty. We should be proud to stand and die if necessary to make sure they live comfortable and even rich lives once they stop serving our great nation.

Marc,
Which Government hack are you a staffer for?

LAWS THAT DO NOT APPLY TO CONGRESS

The Occupational Safety and Health Act (

Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act

Ethics in Government Act of 1978

Independent Counsel

The Migrant and Seasonal Agricultual Worker Protection Act,80 Federal Mine Safety and Health Act,81 Black Lung Benefits Act,82 Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act,83 Railway Labor Act,84 (rail and airline85 labor relations), Federal Employers Liability Act86 (injuries to rail employees), and Norris-Laguardia Act87 (restriction on Federal court injunctions in labor disputes) would have no logical application to activities of Congress.

Other Federal laws do not apply to Congress, such as Title VI of the 1964 Act prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, or national origin 1975 Age Discrimination Act

The National Labor Relations Act, as amended by the Labor Relations Act of 1947,89

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act91
The Employee Polygraph Protection Act
The Employee Retirement Income Security Act

I've seen the list you printed. I believe it is from the archives of the House Rules Committee. As I mentioned, there used to be a number of laws that didn't apply to Congress. That changed in 1995 for the most part. I'd like to see a date on the list you provided. Perhaps I'm wrong in my assertion but I need more than what you provided to convince me of that.

Give me an updated list or at least something from after 1995.

10:44 -- The Congressional Accountability Act (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_Accountability_Act_of_1995) is the law I'm talking about.

Any one of them who doesn't support this needs to have their name and vote plastered on the news every night !

10:30, you are kidding, right? they should not be held under the same set of rules and laws as we are?? you're insane. It would make a huge difference.

Marc,
you still haven't answered my question.
What Government hack are you a staffer for?
P.S. I call them hacks because they are enriching themselves off of the backs of the taxpayers!

All I am saying is that we should all stop pretending like we are as important as the members of our Congress, Executive and Judicial branches of the government of this great and powerful nation.

This is a great nation with a great flag. Those who make the laws we live under are doing the good work of taking care of us. Sometimes we don't realize the necessity of their actions or understand the need for the various taxes we pay. We are stupid. They are our masters.

Stop whining and acting so self important. Respect your leaders. Pay hommage to them and the institutions they establish. Pay your taxes. Get a part time job if you need to take care of your family - and next time, think twice before reproducing and creating even more burden on those who serve us. If you can't feed them, don't have them. Paying your taxes is the number one priority. Taking care of children you have sired because of your silly selfishness is your responsibility. It would better to stop making babies in America. We need to make room for those who come here from other countries where people are less fortunate.

Pledge allegiance to the flag and pay your taxes. Stop creating more families and be responsible. If you mess up, abort the problem before it becomes some person you can't afford to take care of.

The country is what is important, not you or me. Americans are so selfish.

Marc is not a hack. He is simply repeating what he has learned about the matter.

Good discourse.

If you would take a minute to pay attention to what Marc has told you, you might learn something. Really, you might want to take a minute to learn for yourselves before you go off on a rant. He is right.

Marc said...

12:20 -- I used to work for a Senator but don't any longer. So I have some idea of what I'm talking about in this matter. And, as I illustrated, I was right about your information being outdated.

Now I'm a private citizen, so don't worry that any taxpayer money is being wasted. Frankly, though, we'd all be better off if government employees spent their times surfing the Internet rather than finding ways to harass us.

How could laws about discrimination and the sorts even applicable to members of congress? They are voted into their job by members of their district. Its not like we have to have an affirmative action congress. When that day comes we really are screwed.

Thank you for being honest.
You guys stick out like sore thumbs.
Do you hear that ACORN?
You aren't fooling anyone!

Marc said...

5:43 -- yes, on this thread I do stick out like a sore thumb. I guess if you know what you are talking about and have some knowledge of the subject you are bound to stick out, huh?

As far as working in the Senate, I have no shame of that. Unlike many, I went to DC and tried to make a difference. I probably didn't do any good, but I did more than most who sit at home and post on blogs.

Glory be to God and Country. Thanks, Marc. Honesty is hard to come by this day and age.

Marc @ 7:08 P.M.
You stick out like a sore thumb because you have the typical inside the beltway condecending attitude toward the citizenry.
You think you know more than anyone. That is exactly the rot that permeats Washington.
That's also why none of you up there listen.
That's also why there's going to be big changes in November 2010.

Marc said...

To 9:19 -- the only condescending attitude I have is towards those who give opinions on subjects they don't know anything about. People need to educate themselves before they speak. If you haven't taken the time to research something, then don't give your opinion on it. Frankly, if you are ignorant about something then your opinion on it is completely worthless.

This subject is a good illustration of that. People were spouting off on something that was largely fixed in 1995.

I don't think I "know more than anyone." I do think I know more than you about this subject, though, and it's pretty clear that I do. It's a sad day when those who have actually taken the time to become educated on a subject are attacked for doing that.

And I don't live in DC; I live in Salisbury. And I'm probably doing more to make "big changes" in November 2010 than you are, whoever you may be. I believe in limited government and individual liberty. I dedicate my time both professionally and personally to accomplish these things. As part of those efforts, I take the time to study the issues so I know what I'm talking about. I'd hope if you have similar views you'd do the same.
