Salisbury Mayor James Ireton, Jr., is pleased to announce that he will be hosting a Job Training Providers Networking Workshop on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, 144 E. Main Street, Salisbury.
All organizations that provide job training services are invited to attend and participate in this workshop, co-hosted by the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the workshop is to make organizations in the community aware of the role of other organizations, so that they can refer people in need of job training services to the appropriate agency. A few of the organizations who have already agreed to participate include Dove Pointe, Goodwill Workforce Development Center, Lower Shore Enterprises, and Shore Up.
“One of the Underlying Problems in our Crime Task Force matrix is job training for our citizens,” said Mayor Ireton. “I applaud those organizations that train citizens for work coming together to share ideas and organize themselves. Our goal is to ensure that when a citizen comes into these organizations, that a process is in place to get them to the requisite place for successful training. Then the citizen becomes more marketable to employers in our region. This workshop will provide a hand up to those in the community who need skills to work and to the employers who will hire them.”
“Seeking employment and job training can be very stressful,” said Loré Chambers, Assistant City Administrator. “Working collaboratively with organizations that provide job training and placement services, to share resource information, will help individuals to find the right program more efficiently. I am grateful to the providers that see the value in this endeavor and who have agreed to participate.”
The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to co-host this event with the City of Salisbury. “The Chamber and its Foundation have been very active for years in job training partnerships that are helping to facilitate the employment of people in this area,” said Scott Robertson, President of the Salisbury Chamber. “I applaud Mayor Ireton for his leadership on this issue, and we look forward to hosting this event with the City.”

So what happens after we train them? There are no jobs out there. Seems like a waste of money right now
Is it just me or is anyone else getting tired of Jim Ireton's Feel Good Photo Op's?
Jim you seem to be investing a lot of time making pretend you are doing something for the city with your Youtube Videos and your hand shaking. Can you please tell us what you have really done for the city? I can sum it up in one word. NOTHING!

Job training just makes jobs for government people doing the training of people for whom there are no jobs to train them for.
If they are going to train people let them train those that are not just being released from prison first. This help the criminal mentality has got to stop. Help those that have tried to live right, lost their jobs and have fallen on hard times. Screw that help the criminal crap. They have an opportunity for training in jail. They won't work anyway they'll go back to what they did to put them in jail.
Where did this article saying anything about training criminals? Maybe I am missing something. If that is the case I think we can focus our energies on other important issues.
