Ben Tate

Joe,

I think you are aware of who Ben Tate is. Ben is a local young man attending the university of Auburn on a football scholarship. Ben is in his 4th year of eligibility at Auburn and has represented the Eastern Shore of Maryland in a positive light since he was in high school, playing for both Stephen Decatur and Snow Hill. He graduated early from Auburn and is playing his 4th season while in their masters program. Ben has led the powerful SEC in rushing almost this entire year and is now a finalist for the Doak Walker award, established for the best running back in College football each year. The voting opened a few days ago and Ben jumped out to an early lead but there has been an amazing surge by another player on the list. My hopes are that you will post the enclosed link and get the rest of the Eastern Shore behind one of our own by casting their votes for Ben.

Thank you for your time, and thank you for the work you do for our community.

Voting on ESPN.com won't determine who wins the Doak Walker award. There is a selection committee already in place.

I overheard one of his old coaches say, that at present, Ben is projected to be a 3rd round pick in the NFL draft.
Best of Luck to him, make us proud!

Yeah that's all good and all and give him big props but how can someone play both for Decatur and Snow Hill? Maybe he thought he was not getting enough attention at Decatur due to other good athletes (the camera wasn't on him all the time) and he left to go to Snow Hill where he knew that he would stand out for his knowledge of football.

I heard that his cousin Delonte Tate who also goes to Decatur High doesn't live in Worcester County and it has been reported to the school board on numerous occasions. Therefore if this is learned to be true his parents should have to pay the out of county tuition that some teacher's who live out of county and bring their children to Worcester Co schools have to pay. Or maybe Worcester Co just thinks he really good too.

Ben Tate was an outstanding student and Snow Hill was proud to have him attend there..."GO WAR EAGLE!".....Ben faced the same defense Even if he played for St. Decatur...The HILL TOP benefited for having him...AND Tate will go before the 3rd round draft pick....This kid has made big strides...IF Auburn had any kind of Offense leadership his sophomore and Jr. year he would of had even more yards and recognition.....BUT he has made the most of his Sr. Year and All of us from THE HILL TOP are truly proud of his success...BEN GREAT job man...You made it and beat the odds....Lets rally behind Tate...forget the Negative and focus on the positive issues ahead for him!!!

The selection committe picks the 10 you vote on in the ESPN link. The link then determines who the top 3 are for the committe to then again choose the winner.

Ben was an outstanding student and athlete at both schools. He excelled and received plenty of attention at both schools and there was nothing shady about his changing schools and his parents owe nothing to that county as he was a resident of that county. It's a shame when we have a great kid, with great grades, who also excells in athletics making something of himself and someone has to find mythical problems with him. Sounds like a Stephen Decatur fan who was upset about the move. That is all in the past. He has been a major player in the tuffest conference in college football with a very promising future in the NFL. Good job Ben and good luck to him and his family!!
