Education Cuts – Bureaucracy or the Classroom?

There is no joy seeing Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley finally admit that the state’s level of education spending is unsustainable.  If O’Malley had confessed that simply throwing money is not the solution to any problem there would be some cause for applause; unfortunately, this is a lesson that O’Malley is unlikely to learn.

There is no question that pain will be felt at boards of education around the once Free State.  The question will be – WHO feels the the pain?

Will bureaucracy take the hit before classroom instruction?  Doubtful.  If you live in a county like Wicomico you will be TOLD that this is the case.  Of course, you are already being told that all taxpayer monies are well spent.  As you will see next week, the WCBOE doesn’t have a very good record when it comes to truthfulness.  This is particularly so when money is being discussed.

Parents (and taxpayers in general) need to contact their ELECTED representatives and start demanding that tax dollars need to be going to EDUCATE CHILDREN, not FEED THE BUREAUCRACY.  Appointed boards seem to believe that they serve employee unions rather than taxpayers and the children they are charged with educating.  The only hope for citizens seeing that their tax dollars are well spent is from their county council members or commissioners.

Whenever this guy has nothing else to do he throws mud at Wicomico County's public school system.

It's deja vu all over again!

O'Malley could have done the right thing last year and balanced the budget. Instead he took a one time lump sum of "Obama stash" and kicked the can down the road. Well here we are at the same point again. Cuts have to be made. That being said, starting with education is the wrong place. How about some tough evaluations of other departments and cuts to education last...

Have you been under a rock!
There have been state cuts more than twice this year, employees fired, empty positions not hired, 12 furlough days. It's about time education takes a hit as well. I know, I know, if education suffers so do our children. Bull. I'm tired of teachers whining, they are as much a part of this as the rest of the state employees. Be happy jobs still exist and suck it in while the economy is bad, then vote for better government.

The state did put a coupla billion toward building new schools statewide this year. That's gotta count for something, right?

I only "throw mud" at the WCBOE when they deserve it. If these people would start being truthful with the public, they wouldn't have anything to worry about.

I'm sorry, but since they are the biggest users (and wasters) of Wicomico tax dollars they should be kept under a microscope.
