SALISBURY IS STILL A “BANANA REPUBLIC”

During the reign of Barrie P. Tilghman the phrase “banana republic” became a fitting euphemism for the City’s treatment of those who object to or criticize Salisbury’s rulers. At this week’s meeting of the City Council it was plain to see why this usage of that phrase remains apropos.

A resident of the realm who attended and rose to speak during the portion of the meeting open to the public for comments was, in an abrupt scenario featuring asinine outbursts by the Council’s President, denied that opportunity. Acting without a motion, Louise Smith declared the meeting adjourned. At this point the Weasel’s effort to prevent the citizen from being heard by others was taken up by Bubba Comegys, who promptly beckoned a policeman, apparently to remove the miscreant if not to arrest the woman.

Even the mayor sought to silence her by declaring that her conduct was unacceptable. The rest of us can only wonder what she might have told us if allowed to speak, and whether we will ever receive the “help” that we were told “is on the way.”

this sort of conduct on the part of our elected officials is terrible. the lady had every right to speak and for Louise to stop her makes no sense. then for the mayor and gary to step in made the matter worse. this lady has been through a terrible time and has had no help from the city. i realize that there may not be much they can do to help but they could at least be sympahetic. they should be ashamed. thanks sjd

C/P from another post

I'm not a Salisburian but after watching that ridiculous display from Smith I would hope that y'all gather up as many residents of Salisbury that you can and make sure your at the next meeting.

Give Smith what she gave that poor lady 10 fold. I would also suggest that everyone that speaks demand the name and (physical)address of each and every one of the council members and the mayor. EVERY person that approaches the podium.
