Today’s announcement by USCIS that it is making 25,000 h-2b visas available for this season comes as welcome news to Maryland’s seafood industry!
The Chesapeake Bay Seafood Industry Association applauds Maryland’s First District Congressman, Representative Frank Kratovil for all of his tireless efforts in making his happen!!
“This breakthrough announcement comes in just the nick of time for Maryland’s seafood companies, many who have not yet even opened because of lack of workers. With this announcement we are confident that these businesses can at least salvage the end of the season and survive for another year. This action will assure a more reliable market for Maryland Watermen who rely on the crab picking houses here to buy and process their crabs” said Jack Brooks, president of CBSIA.
Brooks added “we are so blessed in Maryland to have Senator Barbara Mikulski and Representative Frank Kratovil fighting day and night for the little guy on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Without them and their efforts there would not be a seafood processing industry left in Maryland!

I havent had any problems getting crabs or processed crab meat.
What do these jobs pay per hour? Do the people using these work visas pay income taxes? How many of these people will go home when the visa expires?
Something I've never figured out: How come I can buy a pound of backfin crabmeat at Sams Club for $14 where someone needs to be paid to pick the meat yet a bushel of steamed, unpicked crabs can cost $200?

Every body wants what is good for them and they seem to care less about whats good for the country. If the association did not need the workers and the workers were brought in for another industry, I'm sure these same members would be complaining about the visas just like everyone else. How fast are 25,000 mexicans going to get here anyway? The season is over by November so when do they go home? This was just another sneakey underhanded project that was pulled off by the Dems without any public airing as to weather the majority of the people wanted this to happen. My guess is that the majority is outraged by this kind of thing and it will surely be reflected in the elections next year. Good bye Kratovil and Mikulski.

If they paid a fair wage maybe they could get some local help.
