The City of Salisbury is looking for an energetic, detail-oriented leader to serve as the Director of Public Works. The Director supervises and directs all divisions of the department including: engineering, water, sewer, streets maintenance, sanitation, vehicle maintenance, a zoo and a marina. Duties include: monitoring state and federal government initiatives and programs; developing City policy and specific operating procedures to ensure state and federal government compliance; developing and providing oversight of the department's budget of $18.74 million. The Director participates in long-range planning, including Master Plans and Strategic Planning; supervises the Public Works Department of 184 employees; and participates in hiring, discipline and staff development.
A Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, ten years experience, a professional engineer license and a valid driver's license are required. Other requirements include: ability to effectively supervise, plan, and coordinate the work of staff in order to accomplish direct public works projects, goals and objectives; establish priorities and organize workload; ability to anticipate needs and plan for them; a thorough knowledge of budget preparation and maintenance; ability to maintain a pleasant and productive working atmosphere and maintain composure in a multi-faceted environment; and ability to make accurate and logical judgments in the best interests of the City. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

Thats one nice paycheck and benefits too. Lets see if I can print me up a certificate of (higher learning) right now. Why not Ivy-League degree,(with honors).
When are they getting a real fire chief or is Mr. Ireton happy with the status quo? You know the same people that cost the tax payers millions of dollars wasted on a palace in the ghetto and all new fire trucks.
Why does Chip Messick keep getting passed over ? He has the education and experience. Doesn't he kiss enough butt for the local politicos?
I think JR should apply for this job. Think about all the fences and building alterations he could put up without those messy permits getting in the way. If you're the boss, who's going to check you? Also , this would pad his already amazing resume of jobs he's had.
